Stand Your Ground
Final Verdict Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Our time is now. Failure is not an option.
Consider yourself at war.
We won't be stopped. We hold these truths in our hearts. These are our lives, and we will not break.
Our fight will never end. Your hate does not make you a man. Suffering is next to foolishness, and life's too short for people like you.
Your time has come, we will end you.
We will not break

Wow.. Now that was a bombshell.. He was killed only 3 days before a huge custody hearing.. He would have most likely won his case because the judge had already sided with him previously. Doug seems like he knew enough to do things the right way, and legally in regard to his child. He also seems like he tried extremely hard to please Ashley and keep her happy. I find it very hard to believe that Doug actually laid a finger on Ashley.

JM Good

Actually it wasn't a custody hearing, but a court hearing where the joint motion of both psychological evaluations would be revealed. Doug wouldn't move to Maryland or stop his divorce proceedings until the results of the both psychological evaluations were released. Doug was cleared on his, and Ashley wasn't. She knew Doug would most likely divorce her and gain full custody of Emerson after it would be revealed she's unfit to parent. Side note: Doug was given full say in regards to Emerson's health decisions, not Ashley. Ashley needed to gain full custody in order to receive child support for her and her mother to pay their rent and bills.

Judge Whyte ruled against Ashley on the SYG motion.

I hate when we miss opening statements. They're so important to getting a grasp on the case.

Felix

This is only hearing to see if there's going to be a trial, there is no opening statements.

Rebecca Canova

Two days of motion hearings....but before I read the caption I thought the same. Phew!

Slim

It's a hearing not a trial

L. G.

The defense attorney is painfully inept.

The "Stand your ground" made me miss the "hearing" part too. :D

I LOVE a judge big on procedures. It's how you get the facts on the record in a fair way AND it allows for excelled lawyering (separately from the facts of the case) which is a joy to follow. I hate emotional theatre trials like with Rittenhouse or Murdaugh. I appreciated good procedural trials like murderer Daryl Brooks and the killers of Ahmaud Arbery, even though all these defendants make you grind your teeth. I'll take the gratuitous musings of this judge because it gives a little window in how this professional works and I love to watch professionals at work.
