Daylight
Finch Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A brilliant lie
Severed patience
Spectered isle
Whispers haunting drown me now
Don't roll over
Play dead for a while
Pierce the vein
Lipstick wrapped in cellophane
Fire in the photographs
Narcolepsy
Sell me out again

Daylight shines on me
Burning up the enemy
Just you wait and see
How much can you bleed?

Wake me up
Compensate this bloody tongue
Travesty from underground
Don't roll over alone or loaded gun

A brilliant lie
Severed patience
Spectered isle
Whispers haunting, drown me now
Narcolepsy
Sell me out again

Daylight shines on me
Burning up the enemy
Just you wait and see
How much can you bleed?
Daylight burnt my eyes
Searing the despised
I'll pray along everything is fine
Swallowing the lie

Do we have contact?
Don't you take mine
Do we have contact?
Don't you take mine
Do we have contact?
Don't you take mine
Do we have contact?
Don't you take mine

Daylight
Daylight
Daylight
Daylight
Daylight

Daylight shines on me
Burning up the enemy
Just you wait and see
How much can you bleed?
Daylight burnt my eyes
Searing the despised

I'll play along everything is fine
Swallowing the lie

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Finch's song "Daylight" are full of vivid and intense imagery that leave the listener with a sense of haunting unease. The repeated phrases "a brilliant lie," "severed patience," and "spectered isle" create an eerie atmosphere that continues throughout the song. The verses feature such lines as "pierce the vein, lipstick wrapped in cellophane" and "fire in the photographs, narcolepsy, sell me out again," which paint a picture of a dark, unhealthy relationship. The lines "wake me up, compensate this bloody tongue" and "swallowing the lie" suggest a struggle for truth and self-awareness, while the repetition of "daylight shines on me" and "just you wait and see, how much can you bleed" creates a sense of impending doom.

Overall, "Daylight" is a song about the damaging effects of lies and spiraling relationships. The imagery of fire, drowning, and bleeding suggest a sense of desperation and a need to escape. The repeated questions "do we have contact, don't you take mine" suggest that the singer is fighting to hold onto some sense of control and identity in the midst of chaos.

This EP made me so excited to see what they could do again. Back to oblivion followed this and man this demo still crushed that album

@stinkyshoe

It's Nate Barcalow's screaming that keep so many in love with the band.

@jrligsay

I AM SO GLAD TO HEAR SOMETHING FROM FINCH AGAIN! I missed this band.... hope they make more songs

@qdgyuu

Man it sucks that they broke up.. This ep was so promising, but i guess if the desire is not there anymore, it's not there. Great song, right here, wish there would be more to come from them.

@ChiiKiyo

I love this! Hurray for Finch making a comback, I was sorta dying without them

@EamoQ14

Man, Finch are the band that got me into lesser known stuff. I started listening almost 4 years ago and I still love 'em. They're the only band that have always stayed in my playlist and on my phone. God dammit Finch thank you for the music!!

@Synthesthesia

Love these guys... For them to get back together and then split up again, just utter torture! Even if they just got back together to finish up the 3rd album I'd be happy!

@xshiro83

@Stealth4761
