They changed their name to Finger Eleven for their breakthrough Tip, released on Mercury Records in Canada in 1997, and re-released by Wind-Up Records in the United States in 1998. The name Finger Eleven comes from an earlier version of the song Thin Spirits from the album Tip. Lead singer, Scott Anderson explains: "when everything is pushing you in one direction and your instinct drives you in another--that’s finger eleven."
A year later, drummer Rob Gommerman left the band and was replaced by Rich Beddoe. In 2000 they released The Greyest of Blue Skies. 2003's self-titled album Finger Eleven was a commercial success, spawning the single One Thing which reached #16 in the US. The band also recorded the song Slow Chemical for WWE superstar Kane and Daaam! (feat. Tha Alkaholiks) on the compilation album Loud Rocks.
Them vs. You vs. Me, was released on March 6, 2007 and contains the singles Paralyzer, Falling On, I'll Keep Your Memory Vague, and Talking To The Walls.
Their most recent album, Life Turns Electric was released on Oct 5, 2010. It featured singles Living in a Dream, Whatever Doesn't Kill Me, Stone Soul and finally Pieces Fit.

Change the World
Finger Eleven Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I don't think I really know
What that means
I know you bring the best out of me
And I know you're sick
Of abstract things
But time has been kind
In a weird kind of way
If I can hold onto this feeling this long
Maybe I can get you to hold me
Don't you believe, girl
You change the world
At least you changed the world for me
I won't be sorry if you leave me girl
Cause I'm the world's biggest fan of clichés
I'll set you free then I'll love like I'm not
Hurting in the world's worst ways
But I don't know if I can make it alone
And I don't have much more left to lose
I can't say for sure just where I'll end up
I just want to end up there with you
Don't you believe, girl
You change the world
At least you changed the world for me
When the darkness never ends
And my world's crashing in
And it starts to turn again
Will you believe?
When I won't get over you
And my world splits in two
When I just can't make it through
Will you believe?
Don't you believe, girl
You change the world
At least you changed the world for me
(until the end)
The lyrics of Finger Eleven's song Change The World are about the struggles of a man in love who wants the best for his girl, but is not sure what it means for her. He acknowledges that his girl brings out the best in him, but also recognizes that she is tired of dealing with abstract things. The man has been waiting for a feeling to leave so that he can hold onto it and has hopes of getting his girl to hold him in return. He believes that his girl has the power to change the world for him and himself, and he won't be sorry if she decides to leave him, indicating his love's respect for her space and choice. However, he confides that he does not know if he can make it alone and wishes to end up with his girl. The song's chorus serves as a reminder to his girl that she indeed has the power to change his world and has done so.
The song's lyrics are intense and emotional, dealing with the conflicts of love and commitment. The use of the phrase "abstract things" signifies the singer's confusion regarding the expression of his love for his girl. The line "When the darkness never ends, and my world's crashing in" talks about the singer's vulnerability in which he relies on his love to believe and support him. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the singer recognizing that his girl has changed the world for him.
