They changed their name to Finger Eleven for their breakthrough Tip, released on Mercury Records in Canada in 1997, and re-released by Wind-Up Records in the United States in 1998. The name Finger Eleven comes from an earlier version of the song Thin Spirits from the album Tip. Lead singer, Scott Anderson explains: "when everything is pushing you in one direction and your instinct drives you in another--that’s finger eleven."
A year later, drummer Rob Gommerman left the band and was replaced by Rich Beddoe. In 2000 they released The Greyest of Blue Skies. 2003's self-titled album Finger Eleven was a commercial success, spawning the single One Thing which reached #16 in the US. The band also recorded the song Slow Chemical for WWE superstar Kane and Daaam! (feat. Tha Alkaholiks) on the compilation album Loud Rocks.
Them vs. You vs. Me, was released on March 6, 2007 and contains the singles Paralyzer, Falling On, I'll Keep Your Memory Vague, and Talking To The Walls.
Their most recent album, Life Turns Electric was released on Oct 5, 2010. It featured singles Living in a Dream, Whatever Doesn't Kill Me, Stone Soul and finally Pieces Fit.

Finger Eleven Lyrics

And I can't be too careful
There's nothing more gradual
Than what I choose to show
And you've been patient with me, alright
But does that end tonight?
I will brave any trial by fire
To fall through your thin ice
I'll explain myself in time
But I'm just not ready
To make that sacrifice
But I'm trying like I said I might
These things are unusual for me
I should explain
No mind should have ever dreamt
Of such fictitious pain
There's a story in there somewhere
But I'm not sure you care
I will brave any trial by fire
But I'm just not ready
To fall through your thin ice
I'll explain myself in time
But I'm just not ready
To make that sacrifice
But I'm trying like I said I might
But I don't trust this exercise
But I'm trying like I said I might
I might, I might trust it this one time (x4)
But I don't trust this exercise.
There's a story in there somewhere
But I'm not sure you care
I will brave any trial by fire
But I'm just not ready
To fall through your thin ice
I'll explain myself in time
But I'm just not ready
To make that sacrifice
But I'm trying (Trying like I said I might)
Just like I said I might (Trying like I said I might)
Yeah, I'm trying (But I don't trust this exercise)
Just like I said I might (Just like I said I might)
The lyrics of Finger Eleven's song "Sacrifice" suggest a hesitation or fear of the singer to reveal his true self to someone. He begins by acknowledging that "these things are eventual," meaning that eventually, in any relationship, one must reveal their true self. However, he also acknowledges that he "can't be too careful" and is cautious about the slow but steady reveal of his true self.
Next, he thanks the person for being patient with him but wonders if their patience has run out. He then speaks of his willingness to "brave any trial by fire," meaning that he is not afraid of a challenge or test, but falling "through your thin ice." This thin ice could represent the fragility of their relationship or the vulnerability he may feel in exposing his true self.

These things are eventual
These situations will occur at some point in time
And I can't be too careful
I need to exercise caution
There's nothing more gradual
This process takes time
Than what I choose to show
I am in control of what I reveal
And you've been patient with me, alright
You have been understanding so far
But does that end tonight?
Is this the end of your patience?
I will brave any trial by fire
I am willing to face any challenge
But I'm just not ready
But I am hesitant
To fall through your thin ice
To risk failing in your eyes
I'll explain myself in time
I will clarify myself eventually
But I'm just not ready
But I am still hesitant
To make that sacrifice
To make that big commitment
But I'm trying like I said I might
But I am making an effort
These things are unusual for me
This is not something I typically experience
I should explain
I need to provide context
No mind should have ever dreamt
This is something that should not be imagined
Of such fictitious pain
Of such imaginary suffering
There's a story in there somewhere
There is more to this than what meets the eye
But I'm not sure you care
But I am uncertain of your interest
But I don't trust this exercise
But I am still hesitant
I might, I might trust it this one time (x4)
I may decide to take this risk
Trying like I said I might
Making an effort as promised
Just like I said I might
As previously stated
Yeah, I'm trying
Yes, I am making an effort
