It's summer 2003 and Xavier and Erik have been listening to Irish music for a while, and on just one of those hot summer-evenings they got the idea to play some Irish traditionals themselves. Xavier still had an old accordeon at his place and Erik was going to play guitar and sing the songs. After watching a gig from the legendary Dubliners in October they totally got into folk and practiced for their fist gig which was a big success. A few weeks after this the band expanded for the first time: Norman joined to play the bassguitar.

In April 2004 Erik went to Dublin to get some inspiration at Guinness, so the band had to quit for a while. At Erik's return in August, Robert, the former drummer of rockband Deterrence joined the gang to create a rock sound.

At this point there was just something missing: an electric guitar. After a short search Bart was added to our line-up and we were almost complete. Anne joined us on the tin whistle, making the folk-part of our sound al lot cooler. By the way, at this time Erik also plays the banjo and mandolin

When you think of our music just think of listening to music while you are getting pissed by too much booze!

50 years ago, when I was a young child, my father used to play this record at home. He even took me to a Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem concert when they came through California. Neither of us is Irish... or drink... but, how can you not love this music?!

@TheCityBoy310 No, not necessarily. Irish drinking songs are usually about that, Irish folk songs have different topics. (like Green fields or France, Fields of Athenry, Isle of Innisfree, Molly Malone, Liverpool Lou, Song for Ireland, Raglan Road...). "The golden Sounds of Irish Folk" is one of my favourite cds

@Cherubicon I am aware of the song lyrics. Politics that happened 200 years ago is still history. That's why I have said it is a historical connection. It has nothing to do with being conscripted, it has to do with being recruited because of drunkeness, "whisky you're the devil you're leading me a stray." Conscription wasn't used in the United Kingdom until 1916. The backdrop of 19th century colonialism makes it historical. If it took place today it would be a political issue.

It's a drinking song about Irishmen conscripted by the British to fight the French. The backdrop of colonialism is definitely a political connection any way you slice it.
