Firefall was a mainstay, album-oriented rock band that put out a large number of hits such as "You Are the Woman" and "Just Remember I Love You" in the late 1970's. The album track from 1976's Firefall, "Cinderella", is a narrative about a man dealing with the torn feelings regarding his girlfriend's unexpected pregnancy and the negative consequences on the relationship and is one of the most controversial tracks released in the rock era.
The original line-up included former Spirit bassist Mark Andes, who later joined Heart, and former Byrds drummer Mike Clarke.
The band's releases were on Atlantic Records during their career. "You are the Woman" was featured as a notable track on the record label's twin compact-disc 30-year history retrospective that was released in 1988.
No Way Out
Firefall Lyrics

Knock it down, make no sound, except what I say
To someone, anyone close enough to hear
You better watch out, son, don’t get too near.
Never gonna change
Always remain the same, yeah
‘Cause there’s no way out
You and I never try hard enough
To take a fling at this thing we’ve come to call love
Never works startin’ out, me and you
Always ends up me and no one to talk to.
Never gonna change
Always remain the same, yeah
‘Cause there’s no way out
For the trouble in me, yeah.
All strung up
I can’t do enough
For myself
For nothin’.
The lyrics to Firefall's song No Way Out highlight a sense of frustration and helplessness in the face of troubled emotions. The opening lines "Everywhere, something there in my way, knock it down, make no sound, except what I say" suggest a feeling of being blocked at every turn, with the only solution being to push through and take control of the situation. The following lines "To someone, anyone close enough to hear, you better watch out, son, don't get too near" indicate a sense of danger or aggression, perhaps directed towards oneself or others.
The chorus "Never gonna change, always remain the same, yeah, 'cause there's no way out for the trouble in me, yeah" reinforces the theme of being stuck in a rut, with no hope for improvement or escape from the turmoil within. The repeated phrase "never gonna change" suggests a resigned acceptance of one's struggles, while the emphasis on the phrase "the trouble in me" further underscores a sense of internal conflict.
The lyrics continue with a focus on the difficulties of romantic relationships, highlighting the disappointment and frustration that can come from failed attempts at love. The lines "You and I never try hard enough to take a fling at this thing we've come to call love, never works startin' out, me and you, always ends up me and no one to talk to" speak to the struggle of finding connection with others, and the sense of loneliness that can result from repeated failures.
Overall, Firefall's No Way Out provides a poignant reflection on the struggle to overcome personal demons and connect with others in meaningful ways.
