i spent 20 yrs in the army and i was a ranger, Our survival training is insane. We are taught to live indefinitely in the wild with little to nothing, even without a knife. I am so thankful for the training i received. you would be surprised at the kind of things we learned to eat. From inner tree bark to bugs. We would do sustained survival training in jungles, cold weather, desert and mountains. Even now i still keep my skills honed just in case. If you could only have one thing , have a good knife. Invest in good equipment or tools because you do NOT want your shit to fail when you need it. There are many ways to test plants to see if they are edible. Some take a bit of time such as cutting open a plant and taping it under your arm by your arm pit for several hours to see if there is a reaction. Yes sounds strange but it works

@Oscar Rivas I do want to say one thing. Real survival skills , not this stupid shit on Youtube from wanna bees who have never in their life actually put real skills to test. Real Survival skills takes time, patience and a lot of practice. You have to understand its not comfortable in any way, You learn to get used to being hungry, cold , hot, tired, and miserable. Real Survival skills is an art form that cannot be learned from the comfort of your back yard or camp sites. I see these videos and laugh my balls off because they all work on the premise of comfort. They tell you to buy this and buy that and to carry this that you would need a vehicle for in many cases. The truth is, and one basic philosophy we were always taught is , "IF YOU CANT CANT CARRY IT ON YOUR BACK, YOU DONT NEED IT. " Everything i need to survive indefinitely in any survival situation and any environment is on my vest. of course ill have a load out in my ruck sack, but we train in the frame of mind that you have nothing. Anything else your carry is considered a luxury, even a knife. We are taught that what you use for survival is in stages. First, your Ruck sack will carry a lot of basic necessities, such as a tent, water purification, Food cubes, not MRES. MRES are a pain in the ass. we just take the protein out and coffee and sugar packets and salt. we dump the rest. As a retired army , now a civilian i buy emergency food cubes i keep some in my ruck and on my vest. However,. we are taught, if we lose or have to abandon our ruck, then our Vest is the next stage. ON my vest. aside from ammo. i carry an assortment of knives and a spare survival knife, compass (always use a military compass with tritium) a vacuumed seal trauma kit i keep behind my front plate in its pocket, and a shit load of other things> This is a typical combat load. Next stage is what if you loose or something happens to your vest. Well. on my belt (always use a riggers belt) i have my main and primary all purpose survival/combat knife. I personally as many of my fellow rangers to, carry an M9 bayonet, Its heavy, durable, can be used for skinning although its not as pretty and clean as using an actual skinning knife, a hammer, a tactical combat knife, etc. IT is by far better than anything i have every used, and trust me ive tried every major popular survival knife out there from Gerber to Randall. Some guys like the old Kbar, but its too light for my taste, i know its a good knife but i like a heavy blade and heavy handle because its next to impossible to break an M9 bayonet. I have broken several K bars which is why i stopped using them. If you decide to get an M9 i suggest a real one from a company that makes them for the military. Dont get a cheap one, your life depends on it. Tri Tech, Phobius are two of the main manufacturers. you can buy them on amazon and they are pretty inexpensive, around a hundred bucks. Dont be fooled by the fancy looking and popular knock offs. Like i said, your life depends on what you carry. and in the case of knives, you get what you paid for. Military issue, for the most part, is reliable. tested and abused and still stands up to rigorous use. I cant stress enough, about these internet survival ass nuts. What they claim they know they have never really had to use it to actually survive. I promise you, they have never been far from a car, cell phone, other people and carry the most stupidest shit i have ever seen. train with bare minimum at first. as you get better and more confident you can increase your load out. Just remember. train as if your life depends on it. the only way to do that is dump your ass out in the wild once you get good and dont make it easy to access comfort. carry a phone of course. but going out in your back yard, camp sites etc is not training with realism. Realism is when your tried, hungry, and the only food you can eat is what you catch, kill. prepare and preserve. i know what im saying turns a lot of people off because , well lets face it. people are soft, lazy, love their comfort and in my opinion pussies. lol . i hope this helps .

During the 2021 freeze in Texas, we were without power for +48hrs, some were without for much longer. In the first 24hrs, every gas station had run out of gasoline. There were lines of cars a mile long waiting to get gas at the few places that had it. People began fighting in line, no regard for each other. You could feel the tension. Every grocery store like HEB was empty. The shelves had nothing. When they restocked, people could only get one gallon of milk and one pack of meat per purchase. People began fighting over the food. It’s astounding that in such a short amount of time, society here was on the brink of collapse. This was 2 days of no power. Imagine a week?

A couple of years ago, on the Central Coast of Australia, a place notorious for high crime and high homelessness, we experienced a blackout during a fortnight (two weeks) of thunderstorms and heavy, heavy rain. I had gone to school and was escorted to the school library along with every other brave student who made it on the first day. Then after 2-3 hours, with the power being out within minutes of arriving to the library, we were told to go home. For me, that would've meant a 45 minute/2 mile walk, in torrential rain. Luckily, buses had been recalled, and we were dropped off.

It flooded to the point where we couldn't leave the house as my family lived in a gully with very poor drainage thanks to the local council ignoring residents who lived on my old street about the sewage grates being overgrown and polluted with trash. The water reached within a few feet of our porch. Also, luckily for my family, we had a gas stove, which hadn't gone down, only the electric sparker in it failed to click, so we had to use a long hosed lighter to light the stove. We heated pot after pot for baths. And luckily my mother had done the weekly shopping before the water boxed us in.

The power was out for a week.
Some suburbs went a almost month without.

It is possible, and it almost got really, really bad.

I live at the top of a hill on the outskirts of a small fishing village. The water pressure is low at the best of times. So I am well stocked with enough water to get me through a nuclear event...because as soon as I can travel, I will be bugging out...sooner rather than later. If you don't have a bug out location then mate up with someone that is in a low population density area and store previsions there.

I drink a lot of Arizona ice tea. It comes in substantial plastic jugs. When they’re empty I rinse them out and recap them. Always have at least 30 on hand. First sign of a hurricane I fill them all. Having them in small containers allows me to share if I choose

You don't want to stay where you need to prepare. Friendly suggestion; prepare your needs somewhere else where no people are around. Buy some piece of land somewhere cheap, ca 1 ha, dig a hole about enough to have food for 6 months, tuna, fish, dried meat, veg's, military rations, water, beer, wine, dry juice, everything that's can last couple of years. Tons of it. Cover it and just leave it. Tools are good to store also, solars, batteries(unused). After this you can forget about your stash and enjoy life. (Me have food for my animals atleast a year of supply. Its different in catastrophy if you are prepared, the unprepared will notice the prepered ones real quick. So don't ever mingle with people you don't know, they will do everything when in panic, most people today are not humans anymore, but a bunch of rapists of any kind.

In my area, we had major looting of malls and shops closed their doors for days. There was no fuel for cars. A few months later, there was a flood that washed out the two access roads and trapped our neighborhood for several days. People were in a panic to buy food and other necessities. Being preppers for years, we didn't have to worry! It amazes me that after those two disasters, people in the area still don't have a prepping mindset.

I definitely believe in prepping! What I worry about though, is IF, SHTF, or any other major disaster, etc happens, when people get desperate, they become crazy, and I think preppers are the 1st ones they will go after, if/when all the stores are empty, and they HAVEN'T prepped, and don't have food. I know, most if not all preppers have weapons, but unless they have an arsenal and a small army of peeps, the ammo will only last so long. It's just something I think about.

The one thing that sucks about prepping is everything expires. You can’t just stick it and forget it. It has to be rotated. Everything from bottled water and can goods to gasoline and batteries.

Expired bottled water taste like chemicals. Expired can goods taste metallic. Expired gasoline has small bits of vasoline floating around that can clog up your fuel system. It’s important to monitor these items with CLEARLY LABELED DATES.

This may seem odd to some, but my wife and I started intermittent fasting a few months ago. The health benefits are enormous and it has cut down on our food intake, thus grocery bills. One thing I would add that a person can start immediately is getting into better shape. There's tons of reliable information online that will help. I have spent a lot of time researching nutrient dense foods and there benefits. You can have all the prepping supplies imaginable but if you aren't in decent shape they will do nothing to help you survive.

When I hear beans and rice I laugh. Good way to starve to death. I’m getting tons of sardines and kippers and making beef and turkey jerky. That and water are all you need. Plus sunlight and fresh air and exercise. I’m a carnivore and practice intermittent fasting.

@leslie landberg people in Asian countries I went to Indonesia and stayed 38 days they eat rice everyday and maybe one meal a day they will have meat fish or chicken or eggs but they mostly survive on rice and they're healthy so don't underestimate it beans are good protein!

@leslie landberg lol. Meat is great but eating only meat isnt good. My go to will be what can be foraged every season. Especially mushrooms and wild fruit like apples and various berries. They replace what meat gives you and then some. Mushrooms can be dried and last years plus theyre plentiful with different species for every season. Youd be surprised how many mushrooms are around when looking for them. Gotta learn the trees in your area. Most mushrooms are mycorrhizal which means they share a symbiotic relationship with specific trees. It really wouldnt be that hard to make it on all natural foods just alotta work. Btw you definitely wouldnt starve to death on beans and rice. Beans are very healthy.

At first, you prep for 3 weeks, and before you know it, you are prepped for 90 days. Most of us preppers off grid are prepped for almost 3 years but it took time, effort and money to get to this point of prepping. But once you have a solid 90 day of survival prepping . . . work on your SKILLS. Acquire as many worthwhile skills as possible. Learn how to hunt, fish, butcher animals/fish, preservation of food (i.e., smoking, salting, canning, freeze drying), learn how to farm/garden/plant food and breed chickens, rabbits, and/or goats. Take up productive hobbies such as bee keeping or maple syrup harvesting. Learn how to forage in the wilderness, be able to identify edibles and non-poisonous mushrooms. Learn how to build, carpentry, sewing, knitting, etc. YES! Acquiring skills and solid/reliable tools to accomplish those skills . . . very important. Great video, thanks for sharing.

The video was a description of what I lived through with Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Except we never had that 24 hr window to leave. Hurricane was probably on a smaller scale and quicker rebuild (we had air transportation in about 3 months and a lot of us left then). The experience left long lasting psychological effects even on my child who was 9 at the time.

The knowledge of how to grow oyster mushrooms, while obscure, would be a very beneficial knowledge to help get you through that time. They grow in a few weeks, can be divided and mixed for exponential growth potential, and grows off non edible materials like sawdust, straw, I've even grown them off corn cobs. They're 25 percent protein as well. You can teach your whole community to grow them easily reducing the burden they may be on you.

I survived 3 weeks without power and without running water after Wilma hit Miami as a Cat 3 hurricane back in 2005. No looting in our area, no need to use food or water from the National Guard. Several families from the neighborhood exchanged ph numbers and organized an improvised security teams at night, all very well and legally armed. During the day we help each other in cleaning and sharing or trading goods. That was a temporary or at least an end in sight crisis. In a situation of civil war, world war, social collapse, or a natural disaster of a greater magnitude, the story will be very different.

I was just up the road in Ft. Lauderdale and we had very little damage from that storm. Which is why things didn't hit the fan in Miami...we had family coming up to shower, charge their phones, and shop in our local grocery store. The Guard was on site immediately because they had a week of advanced notice. It was a very regional storm... now imagine if she had taken out the entire state. The line of cars headed north on the turnpike & 95 would be a disaster in itself!

Potable water is crucial to any survival. Next is the ability to reliably make fire, and preferably a large cast iron pot, to cook on the fire. A really good knife and a heavy bladed, butcher's type machete is incredibly useful. You can even open tinned food with a heavy bladed machete ( I've done it loads of times) and it's great for butchering meat into good cuts. Remember to take a little vial of oil with you and an oilstone to sharpen your knives. If you can manage it, get a good axe too. Even in the stone age they made axes, so you need one.Also, never tell people what you've got, hidden in your home

That oil can be vegetable oil and can also be used to lubricate a firearm! A water filter is important and a pre-filter can greatly extend the use of the filter to screen out larger sediment that can clog a water filter!

One often overlooked aspect are structures and systems that require constant active maintenance to keep them from becoming a problem such as a nuclear power plants that require water cooling to stop meltdown. Once those are unmanned, anyone remotely close is in trouble

between 2013 and 2019 my dad predicted all these things would eventually come to pass. And it hit hard in 2020. But because of the mental preparedness and spiritual reinforcement I was able to keep a level head and help protect my family during that tough time. And this is still ongoing. Don't wait to act. Don’t forget that you may not be close to home when disaster strikes. Keep survival items in your car that will allow you to walk to safety or stay with your vehicle if needed. Such as a blanket, tennis shoes, socks, life straw, water bottle, etc. A SAT phone is another great option to send messages to family or a SOS message.

I’m sure mostly everyone knows this but I believe staying fit helps also.. I run 7-8 miles a day 5-6 times a week since 2003 when I joined the Marine corp. keeping up on marksmanship skills is important.. not call of duty practice but actually going to the range and using good old iron sights. Hope it never comes to this.. god bless you all

Also: Somthing to note, if you are a learned hunter and trapper and you live in an area that's partially populated, you may have squirrels, mice, rats and other animals in the area, as long as it's preserved but keeps you fed then you will have an excellent source of protein, something that when combined with salt and stored or made into an item like jerky has a very high trade value.

Keeping small meat animals like rabbits and chickens, even mice and rats can help supplement whatever you can grow or harvest! Chickens are great because of their eggs but can be noisy! Rabbits are quiet and can eat many plants that humans can't like grass, although all known grass seeds are edible by humans! Mice and rats are omnivores and can eat almost anything organic!

In South Africa, various countrywide prepping groups have formed to protect each other and their fellow citizens in a severe SHTF scenario. Our family is part of such a group and have prepped for years.... yet we cannot get one single member of our friend group to do the same.... it is confounding to me! We have preps for staying at home, preps for leaving and joining our prepping group away from the cities and preps for if we are alone somewhere, living off the land. Our prepping group communication network does radio checks once a week ( across the whole province). We have camping weekends together to use and refine our preps, where we have to find and filter our own water, only eat the kind of food we have in our stockpile and even dig pit latrines. Most of our prepping group have off-road caravans so that we have comfortable, lockable places to sleep....
My friend group on the other hand, say that prepping is too negative to think about, but for me its quite the opposite: the more I prep, the calmer and more in control I feel. So while my friend group have enjoyed travel and fancy toys over the years, we have plowed all our spare time an money into our "ark".
Bear in mind that we in South Africa live with rolling blackouts already, so we are much closer to grid-down than you in America.
Still, despite all this, our ultimate preparation is the strengthening of our Faith. God has placed us here, at this time - I am always mindful of the verse from Esther: "Perhaps you were made for such a time as this".
The writing is on the wall - only the foolish and blind cannot see it or recognise it. God Bless you all in your preparations!

I remember the power going out for about 3 days in the 2010's in NY and a large surrounding area. After that I got a good idea of how quickly you become vulnerable if you're not prepared. I'm no hardcore "prepper" but I know what I need to get through a month with nothing. Including weaponry!!

The closest ive gotten to this was the height of the corona virus not being able to find toilet paper anywhere all bottle water was gone too canned foods were also gone. Year before last when Texas had that storm move through, I was stuck at the clinic for about 66 hours, then other crew members made it in and I went home. Still had rolling blackouts and news talking about people not having power, water or even propane. All this after being warned for a week potential for bad weather was coming. Perhaps not to the extent it actually turned out to be but still, people were warned and did nothing.
At home I had alternative power, fuel, food, and other supplies, so didn't really notice a problem. Had turned the water main off before going to work, so no broken pipes in the house. All it takes is a bit of planning, and stocking up on essentials. And spread the stocking over a period where you add one or two things extra each time you go to the store, the cost is not noticed. But people still refuse to prep and then complain when the least little thing happens.
Remember the neighborhood store only carries three days of inventory for the local area they serve so when people think something bad is happening those supplies are gone in a couple hours.
Do not plan on going to get anything once the lights go off. This holds true even in small towns. Just look through the comments and find people will take care of their own so your family is only going to survive if YOU get ready and not depend on others.

I downloaded your guide and thank you for it. I think one of the things we need to know is how close we live to a nuclear reactor. There are about a hundred in the US. One of the first things we would need to do is make sure that the reactors remain manned after a disaster. If they don't, they will overheat within a few months and after that it won't matter how much water, ammo, food and meds you have on hand. One by one, those reactors will begin to explode and we all will be dead or dying. Find out what the emergency plans are for keeping the reactors safe in a disaster situation and aftermath. Find out what all the alternative plans are and if you can help if you are needed. Get all your family members trained and set up with an EDC if they are old enough. Good luck.

Good advice. I would encourage everyone to purchase good water filters. I backpack and use the Sawyer Brand and have used it to filter hundreds of gallons of water from streams, rivers and ponds. Each are good for up to 100,000 gallons life span if maintained. They require no power, fits in your pocket and cost under 40 bucks.

I had a dream in Mid December that Texas was hit by an EMP. I was in my car, and it was vivid. It was around 11 PM, and most people were asleep. Mine was the only car on the road. I did have people with me. This was the most intense dream I’ve ever had in the term of being “as if I was there.” I saw the street lights go, my phone, and my car ceased to run simultaneously. In this dream, I tell the people with me, we’ve just been hit by an EMP. I cover my face with both hands in anguish, feeling a heavy sense of dread. At that point I woke from this nap. This dream is like two before that have happened.
These other two, I will not go into. Either way, it’s not good to feel this sense of dread.

one thing i started doing with my prep is to put together 3 day food kits. simple plastic shoeboxes with easy foods like energy bars, oatmeal, a small 1lb bag of rice, drink mix, water purification tabs, etc.
each one has a box of matches, a roll of tape, an emergency blanket, and a small 1st aid kit. i hope to throw a lifestraw and a small battery bank in each eventually, but that might be too expensive.
each one cost about $15-$20 to make from the dollar store, but is enough to eat 1000cal/day for 3 days.
as certain items in my primary supplies start to expire and i cycle it out, i will add some of the more stable items to these kits as well.

i made 10 of them over the course of a year and i intend keeping them for my neighbors if they come knocking for help.
best case scenario, i make some friends/allys. worst case, they try to rob me for my extra supplies and i let them take it all. it looks like a lot of stuff, so i should have an easy time convincing them that it is all that i have lol.

I think another key thing to mention is how heavy bug out gear can be, we did a lot of ruck marches in the army and I'll tell you hauling a rifle and 60-80lb pack for 11 miles or more will wipe you out. If you're not ruck marching I'd recommend you at least start with 25lb bag for 8 miles. Just to get the feel. If you're stranded and need to get off the highway with a backpack most people won't even get to the edge of a major city.

Right on. I see all these videos of bug out preps and not saying all are bad, but a lot of them are people showing off their bug out bags and kit outs. I have to laugh, because I'm looking at their fantasy set ups thinking WTF, that's like over 100 pounds of gear. A lot of these bug out prepper youtubers show some cool gear, but obviously have zero practical experience and they think they are pro-survivalists, because they got that plate carrier, 35 liter (or larger) backpack, a rifle, a shotgun, a handgun, 1000s of rounds of ammo, granola bars (rolling my eyes), 5 liters of water, and all the other gear they can get stuffed into that 35 liter pack.

You can add to your carrying capacity by keeping one or two small solid rubber wheels in your pack. Make a basic Indian style travois and put the wheels on the bottom. Work smarter not harder.
I have "invented" many things for my bag and setup. For example a canvas mattress tick. You can use it to organize your bag but once you empty it it can be stuffed with leaves or hay etc and make a very comfortable mattress. Poor sleep is one of the worst things about survival situations in my opinion. I have studied how to build and replace the things you need as well as learning medicinal plants and edible wild plants

Just a thought;
Most theoretical shtf scenarios aren't immediate, they're a slow burn. Maybe the lights go out. Is it shtf or an outage you can wait out? Maybe you can survive just by going to a family members home.
I don't see an event where preppers can immediately rationalize heading for the hills. That time will come but only after regular communities have broken down from lack of resources.

Even with a good amount of preps, most people in towns, definitely in cities, and even in rural locations are at risk of individuals and groups who will take anything they can find in their own desperation to stay alive. Offering them a small amount pretty much guarantees they will demand more, or come back with others to take it all. Even groups of like minded and prepared people would still do better by hunkering down for those first 90 days and then testing out the waters to see who is left and the local and more distant dangers. Take a look at what the rioting and looting that has been going on looks like, and then assess your group and their ability to hold that off or survive it if 'you' are the target. Most are not up to that. If you hide in your basement, your home will still likely be ransacked by neighbors and people trying to get home. Unless you have things buried and unmarked to any casual search, what you have will be taken. All those neatly stacked shelves that you spent so much on will be as empty as the stores if it is out in plain sight to anyone entering your home (and I mean entering without an invitation). And, even if you have supplies well hidden and cached, there WILL come a point where someone will be desperate enough to off another over a can of beans or soup. It is human nature, and humans have been this way since the beginning. If you prep with that thought in mind, as awful as it sounds, you might make it through the first 90 days. We had those neatly stacked shelves ~ now we have neatly packed and buried sealed barrels. No, it doesn't look as awesome as those shelves; it doesn't look like anything. But, no one else knows what is there, where it is, or has access to it. Whether we survive or not is questionable, but it won't be because anyone 'saw' what we have, or busted in and got rid of us so there is more for them. Our 90 days supply is entirely wrapped in our interior walls and also out of sight. Our entire group has gone to this storage method. Granted, it may not work for those who rent, but we all own our homes. Most of us have no plans to even bother trying to harvest a garden during those 90 days, and frankly, not until the next spring. We can't guard them adequately without the risk of not being around for that next spring to make it worth it.

The other thing to consider, and I don't personally consider it all that far-fetched at this point, is whatever government is in place using such an event to consolidate and hold power. Forcing people into controlled camps, ensuring their compliance by promises of food and care ... are 'you' prepared for that? Think about what the alphabet agencies have done to individuals over the past 10 years. Think about how many have been armed. The government's absolute main priority is to remain functional ~ and that includes the federal, state, and county levels. Read your state emergency plans (available online for free) and see for yourself. Every one of them intends to seize and control any and all resources 'for the greater good' including (but not limited to) medical resources, food (including livestock), water, fuel, etc. The plans detail doling those items out in order to 'essential personnel' first, and to civilians if and when possible. The government and the military have done this since the Revolutionary war. Neither cares if you have an infant, a wounded family member, etc. During the Revolutionary war the military went through homes in Charleston and several other cities leaving families with literally a pound of rice and beans each. All meat, all vegetables, all salt, all flour, and all small livestock was confiscated for the use of the military. Gardens and orchards were stripped clean.

Many people might survive a short term catastrophe, but something on the lines of grid down will come down to serious prepping with an honest acknowledgement of human nature, government actions, and in many cases just 'luck'.

It seems to me that no matter how well prepared you may think you are, when shtf, 1) no matter how much you have stocked up, you’ll wish you had more, 2) do we really know how anyone (meaning us and our loved ones) is going to react mentally and emotionally, and how can we prepare for that now? We automatically assume that bad guys will act badly, but so will desperate people, especially those with women and children. Are we going to help them? Send them away wounded and starving? Shoot them? I can’t say because I’ve never been in that bad of a situation, but I can say, do the very best that you can, in your circumstances, to prepare, and to execute your plans, then trust in God to help with the rest!

another thing to add is paying attention to where stashes of food or water may lurk, like my work usually has 20-40 5 gallon bottles of drinking water and usually half a pallet of bottled water on hand as well as three vending machines and a 500 gallon tank for diesel. with use of the equipment there you could very very easily fortify that location.

Good idea. I'm finding that water is the hardest thing to stock up on. No room inside the house. I have many outbuildings (no a/c in them) but I think that you can't store bottled water in temps that hot (maybe 130+ degrees in Texas summers). This leaves out some huge components of survival - the main ones being weapons and defense strategy. Without a way to defend your supplies, you're just a store for other desperate people who have better weapons. The community idea is feel-good, but it will only cause you to be supporting an unprepared community with your supplies. Stay out of sight and out of mind of others. Don't advertise that you know what you're doing. Be stealthy at all times - appear as helpless as others and nobody will expect you to contribute. Also, look into animal traps. The old adage "A trappers family never goes hungry" is still true.

this a perfect comment, its always good to keep chemicals and fire on hand to use as weapons as well, they can be very cheap handy and deadly if you know how to use them without wasting ammo which can be used for hunting and that can be very scarce or expensive

Of all the great information in this video, and all the doom what stuck in my head the most was when he said "most people can't walk ten miles". I'm 61 and I can walk all day long. I'm having a hard time understanding why they couldn't walk unless they're physically impaired. That struck me hard. Are we really that out of shape? It's heartbreaking.

I will be watching this video more than once. I have SITF binder (mostly for my daughter) but also for myself. When I am under stress, I don’t think as clearly as I would like. If the power is out - we can look in the binder for what things to do first, next, and so on. This video is one of the best I have watched. I will be adding ideas to my binder. Kim; Been prepping for years! Every garage sale I've gone to, I always ask if they have candles. People give me strange looks but candles are critical when the power goes out! Also bought a wood stove for my home. Collect all the water you can and put it in every empty space you have! Same with food, meds, ammo, etc... Have a burn barrel for your trash, city or not. Have the mindset of if you didn't have your utilities and couldn't leave your home. I made 3 toilets with toilet seats, 5-gallon buckets, plastic bags to put in it and a bungee cord to hold it in place when you do your business. When done, ties bag up and take to burn barrel. Disease will be critical in a SHTF scenario. Good luck!

At 14:00, the importance of paper maps was stressed. Good ones are the 1:50,000 topographical maps available at hiking shops and outdoor stores. In addition, I would highly recommend a good compass but more importantly is the skill in it’s use. Learn how to navigate by map and compass alone as the GPS system may not be functioning. Spending a few weekends in your local area orienteering is not only a fun way to get some exercise, it just might be a skill that you can use to save lives.

Friends? See if you can plan with them( if they are close enough). Devise a plan( routes,food,clothes,etc). Are your kids old enough to carry a backpack? Set up bug out bags for quick retrieval. You can do this. Do not panic. Think logical,plan.

@Norm L. Hugh-Mann -- I just finally went to use my long-stored water supply in the recent power outages and found it expired in 2016. I bought it before then. It was fine and I have been using it up now and will replace my supplies as soon as I can. It was a lesson in expiration dates BUT I wonder if my storage choices had anything to do with it not growing algae over time. I don't know. I haven't heard anything about that kind of thing with our bottled water supplies.

You need to be in good shape, too. Not being accustomed to moving distance without practicing with your load out, can catch you by surprise, particularly if you have to run. The last thing you want to do to get away is having to drop your load out. That is why we did monthly conditioning hikes in the Corps. Anywhere between 3 and 20 miles is what we did, in full gear outside of ammo (which weighs a lot). Get a couple of Lifestraws or other filters. We have freeze dried food as a last resort. I’d rather hunt/fish where I can, and use freeze dried when other food is scarce.

Bugging in is the least wanted option. Staying in a population will increase the chance of looters getting you and yours. Scary, but the reality is that it could happen. Ensure you have a supply of antibiotics if possible. In a major event where there are no hospitals, a simple cut can be deadly. Good luck, we are going to need it.

Read up on plants and herbs. It's food and possible meds. Refill needed meds at first opportunity.Have a well stocked First Aid supply kit. Make friends with that nurse at the end of your road. If you get a cut or even a scratch, clean it well, keep it clean and covered. Get wasp and hornet spray- many in my family are allergic and it sprays 20 feet and can be used on an intruder. If you can afford it, buy replacement stove pipes now for wood stoves.

This video is only viable in the western world. It depends on which area of the world you're in, being in the Middle east would probably be more peaceful in a post-apocalyptic world since its easier for us to form "tribes" around things we have in common between us. Also living in the desert doesn't really have much to fight for, its far better for people to form large peaceful tribes and form alliances than to fight with other groups of people. (much like how we lived throughout history as nomadic Bedouins).

If people in the stone age could form alliances, Its pretty reasonable to assume modern humans could do that as well. If you really feel like everyone would turn against one another in an apocalypse its because that's what you would do, turn on others, so you feel like everyone else would do the same.

I was caught with having Covid-19 in the first month it started. Only God knows how I lived through it, but one thing I realized was I wasn't prepared to survive.
Living in a downtown area of a city, I headed for every store to fill up on canned food and dry goods.. Now it's been three years, and I realize I was lucky.
Today, I'm thrilled to say that I've improved my situation at my home. My whole backyard is a garden of vegetables, fruit trees, and berries. I over prepared so I could barter for help because of my age. Tip: Don't tell everyone what you're doing. I made that mistake. Living alone, I had family I didn't know trying to move into my home. Don't give out your extra vegetables to strangers now that a pound of broccoli costs more than a pound of chicken in some stores.
And most of all, store your water in glass containers in a dark, cool area. I use my old gallon wine bottles. Every six months, I recycle the water using it in my garden. I refill and date them. Also...never stop learning.

Having lived in this situation in Minnesota, it wasn't as bad as the video let's on. The toughest part of the situation after 3 weeks was not the shortages or the looting or rioting. But the increasing anxiety was the hardest thing.
The civil unrest mellowed out as the summer went on.
We decided to donate a lot of our preps. We still have some but community is the essential thing to survive. A complete collapse rarely happens. The thing that I never understood fully was the importance of community and local leadership in surviving a collapse.

You forgot one of the most important things here, entertainment. It might not seem like something that's going to be critical in a survival situation, but it will be. Like you're pointing out, building or maintaining a community is going to be very important as it'll be unlikely that a single person can do everything themselves. And to build a community you're going to have to maintain moral, for that entertainment is going to be crucial. A community that is simply surviving isn't going to last very long, you're going to have to thrive for people to stay motivated and connected to each other. Many hardcore survivalists often fail at the social aspect of survival, so don't be that person that refuses to spend a little bit of electricity on playing some music or setting up a communal movie experience, if you do you will not be liked by the group no matter how good your intentions are. Personally I have a huge library of movies and music in my survival kit, along with a massive library of books. While the books are mostly achademic, there is also hundreds of literary works and even spiritual texts from all over the world. I keep these on external SSD drives in multiple copies. They don't require a lot of energy, and they're very durable. As long as you have some solar panels and a phone they can be accessed. I would highly recommend adding this to your survival kit as being not only the keeper of knowledge, but the source of everyone's feel good entertainment and inspiration is going to make you a very popular person.

I have prepared my own medical surgical instruments for minor surgery, and a Simpson forceps for aiding natural childbirth. I’m an MD and I have made sure to attain a good position as a rural family doctor in my area. I am positive no one will simply get rid of me. They would only lose if they did. Medical knowledge will be invaluable in SHTF. Not to mention I can also grow a garden, some crops, and deal with cattle and fowl. I’m not afraid to work the land or carry water. I’ve prepared my roots where I current are 4 years ago, but in case things go really dire I can always go the the family farm where we raise our beef cattle.

I retired from the army in 2015 after 30 years plus of service. I was a medic. NREMT-I it was the best decisions I have ever made. The training was above and beyond the regular EMT. It was mandatory to be NREMT certified but the additional training was even better. As my chidren were growing I taught them first aid, splinting, CPR etc. Simple actions can and will literally save lives. The company I once worked for had me go the their different sites and teach the Red Cross community first aid. Part of job security? If you have a chance take any communtiy first aid you can. You may well save the life of a family member some day.

I live in the burbs and can only imagine coordinated groups of people going house to house and violently taking what they see and want. Makes me think about going somewhere else, but where (?) How do people find a little piece of land and then move there.

I liked and prescribed. I greatly agree with this video. Especially the first 72 hours. The nights will be bad in the cities even on day 1. Gangs opportunistic people. By day 3 it’s on. ,you explained this in a rational calm tone so hopefully the non prepared will listen. ,, I never thought about cooking without spices. Good call. * never reveal all your supplies. The whole family has to learn to be quiet. Grey man. This is difficult because we all communicate. Would be bad if your 10 year old bragged to the neighbor kid “my dad stored food for us”. In 30 minutes the whole neighborhood knows. I agree we have to work together with others, without becoming the free store for lazy people. Best thing is to be or get rural with similar minded people who made plans and RULES ahead of time.

Back in 2018 up in the NorthEast we got slammed by a large blizzard, most of our towns lost power for like 2-4 weeks, and there was major flooding on the coastline. No looting luckily though, no one could really get out of their house or neighborhood anyway 😂

If you have a yard, plant edible plants such as flowers, bushes, and root vegetables. Research which plants are edible and what parts. If your food runs out, you can always forage in your own yard.

If you want easy safe houses, just come to brazil, here we have metal bars on all windows, tall walls on each side of the house, more than one locked entrance, idle defense on the walls (usually glass or spikes on top of the walls) and we also have the culture of buying everything we need in one day to last the whole month (don't really know if that's unique tbh).

It depends on what type of animal you have weather or not that's a good idea. A small yipping dog will give way your location. Allies won't want someone with an animal that does that.

Yes, you can’t forget them I live in the woods and as long as they have three or four bags of kibble, I’m good I have some treats and pig ears and all that probably enough for maybe a month, but I live near a stream so I would let them drink that water so I can preserve the regular water.

I finished my hunter exam soon one year ago and I have learned how to hunt and prep the meet and things like that. So when it comes to the food part I feel a bit safe already knowing how to hunt birds I can eat and things like that. The problem I’m worried about is the face that one day all the ammunition will run out and then I can’t hunt for more food.

I live in Sweden so the gun laws here are strict, so it’s not like you can find more ammunition just laying around here like you would do in the us.

Water will be more important that food. Focus first on storing and cycling water. Rain water is even better and grow some fish that can feed your garden in a sort of aquaponic/hydroponic way. Get a few solar panels to help run that system and possibly a little windmill. Keep it contained to prevent mosquitoes, the fish can help eat them as well . Grow mushrooms within your garden and utilize ollas to cut down on water evaporation loss. The other critical aspect is having a composting toilet and staying clean/hygiene as far as sanitation goes, lots of people die from drinking bad water that causes disease after a disaster. Try to learn from what happened in Haiti. Totally agree with most of what is in this video, we have plenty of case examples of what happens post disaster for small, medium, and large scale disasters. It doesn’t take long before people turn desperate and violence erupts. Trust only your family and your closest of friends.

We keep a little over 3 months of food for 4 people and weapons - with about 2k rounds to protect it. We are working on long term plans such as seeds/gardening, solar power, etc... My neighbors, nor friends know that I am a prepper and think my wife's recent vegetable gardening is a hobby. Your video's have been good food for thought and I've begun investigating other means of communications (i.e. CB, Ham radio, etc...)

I live in FL. I've been without power for up to 6 days. We just chill. Heck, my friend's county didn't have power for 2 weeks. No one did anything crazy. Now mind you this was due to a hurricane. In the back of our minds. We did know at some point power would come back on. I'm not sure if it would have been the same situation. Had it been a statewide blackout or countrywide blackout. Now I do have six gravity fed water purifiers, solar panels and my house runs on well water. I will keep my air conditioning, hot water, etc. During the day. At night just going to have to rough it.

I came across Charlotte County Sheriff Deputy who was responsible for community neighborhood watch , we started talking about our neighborhood watch and defending our communities especially at that time California was going Up In Smoke , he said that California is a different beast and we are different in Florida , being in the subtropics we do have plenty of other resources , I went through hurricane Charley and people were extremely civil versus what happened in Louisiana with Hurricane Katrina ,
I am not sure how far would it go , but I am sure of one thing , God is going to test our Humanity and Christianity to the maximum .

I had my first wake up csll years ago when the area I was in was out of power for a few days. After the second night i decided to put my family in a hotel. But all the hotels in the surrounding area were booked do to locals taking all the rooms. We had to travel almost 30mins down I95 to find a room. When we got there, there was a line around the building. That ordeal showed me a lot. I could only imagine if there was a nationwide outage for a long period of time. People will panic and it's going to be complete pandemonium.
