Spiking extremely retro electropop tendencies (recalling Kraftwerk, early Depeche Mode, and Gary Numan) with a modern approach to programming, Fischerspooner produces a quirky, robotic, and strangely subdued kind of dance music. Their albums can be seen as soundtracks to their stageshows, as opposed to recordings which are performed live.
Many critical theorists have latched on to the band for their subversive attitude and sassy stylings - Judith Butler, Etienne Balibar, and Antonio Negri, to name a few.
On October 30, 2019, the duo announced their breakup via Instagram.

Fischerspooner Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A total one
Encompassing
The only one
A world complete
That's all my own
Exactly as
As it should be, oh
[Chorus:]
I lost myself
I lost myself
You can't see how
Because I am just a cloudâ?¦a cloud.
Everything adds up to a truth
Maybe now, I can know me too
I have you now
Where you should be
You are mine now
But I lost me, I'm a cloud
[Chorus]
Resplendent dream it overtook me
I had no choice but build it
I made it all
I built it up
Up
[Chorus]
In the Fischerspooner's song "Cloud", the singer is expressing their desire for a perfect world. They describe this world as their "vision", one that is "total" and "encompassing" and that they view as the only option. This vision has been carefully constructed to be complete, exactly as it should be, where everything adds up to a truth, and where the singer can finally know themselves. In the chorus, the singer admits that they have lost themselves in this vision, and that they are like a cloud, invisible and detached.
The singer's vision seems to reflect a state of mind where they desire to be in control of everything that surrounds them, where they can build their own world as they envision it. The repetition of the phrase "I lost myself" in the chorus highlights the cost of this desire, which is the loss of a sense of self. The singer is so deeply lost in their vision that they cannot share it with anyone else, and they are out of reach from being understood.

in 2005, I heard them and this album for the 1st time. You have no idea how many times and for how many years I listened to this album repeatedly. Great times and if I could do it all over again I would.

Pity they disappeared. Back in the day I was visiting an art exhibition and this tune popped out from a video. An instantly mesmerizing experience. "The true heirs of Pet Shop Boys", someone said. It might well have been so.
