Joe Achtzener (bass), Matt Matis (vocals/guitar), Josh Pearson (drums) and David Saylor (guitar/vocals) combine catchy lyrics, melodic vocals, killer guitar solos, mind blowing bass licks and monster drumming to create what has been deemed “the up-and-coming sound of what has come to be expected in the clubs of Arlington and Fairfax counties” (Burke Connection, November 2006). Having played the metro area consistently for the past two years, Fistful of Fifties have become regulars at such venues as Laughing Lizard Lounge and TT Reynold’s while also gaining recognition as Fire Station 8’s Band of the Month for October 2006 and Cue-la-palooza 2005’s Battle of the Bands winner. Fistful of Fifties have been featured in the Washington Post’s Fairfax Extra and gained local notoriety through air play on Locals Only Radio and a recent spot on DC101’s Local Lix (Clear Channel Broadcasting).
In the summer of 2006, Fistful of Fifties released their first self-titled EP, recorded at Nothing But Noise Studios. Not a band to let their influences put a strong hold on their music, Fistful of Fifties are continuously writing new songs ranging from the occasional softer ballad to hard rock, allowing enough diversity for their on stage antics to reach every type of fan.
Alone Again
Fistful of Fifties Lyrics

It seems the problem is that we both have our lives
So hold your head up son, unpack all your regrets
Leave the choice behind, behold the sun
Goodbye my only friend
Goodbye my only friend
Tell her that you miss her
Goodbye my only friend
Home a four letter word at best The air still cries me here
to chase my crazy dreams The wind took you out west
The miles and miles you drove to find your inner self
I'm wondering am I useless here
Goodbye my only friend
Goodbye my only friend
Tell her that you miss her
Tell her we'll be alone again
Goodbye my only friend
My only friend…
alright
Hallucinate a memory of a time when we were able
Nothing but a simple dream Our pasts divide to leave us sane,
well Maybe in this moment I should breathe
Today I talked with my old man about where we went wrong
It seems the problem is we're alive
Goodbye my only friend
Goodbye my only friend
Tell her that you miss her
Tell her we'll be alone again
Goodbye my only friend
The lyrics to Fistful of Fifties' song Alone Again tell the story of someone who is contemplating their life choices and reflecting on where they went wrong. The first verse talks about a conversation with their father, where they both realize that they have been living separate lives and it has caused problems between them. The chorus then says goodbye to the singer's only friend, who they miss deeply and will be alone without again.
The second verse talks about the concept of home and how it can be a difficult thing to define. The singer wonders if they are useless where they are and if they should leave to pursue their dreams. The bridge of the song briefly takes the listener back in time to a simpler moment before returning to the present where the singer talks with their father again, ultimately realizing that the problem is just that they are alive.
The song is a poignant reflection on the struggles of modern life and the difficulties of human relationships. It speaks to the universal human experience of feeling alone, lost, and disconnected but ultimately finding solace in the shared experience of being alive.
