Overall Meaning

In this song Fue Por Amor by Fito Paez, the singer confesses to the brutal murder of a man for the sake of love. He was drunk and his lover was in bed with another man when he killed the man and she threw his guitar into a river. He did not even think twice before doing so, as he was blinded by love. The second verse is about how his lover has liberated him from his personal struggles and how he wishes to travel a long distance to see her if she survives some unknown difficulty. He brings up San Martin, a figure who freed his country from colonialism, in parallel to his own liberation from his inner demons. The chorus of the song simply says “It was for love.”

It is a tragic story of how someone can be pushed to the brink of madness by unrequited love.
