Something i noticed personally is the lights. In the lore we know blue is surrender, the color of the neon gravestones, and yellow is hope and fire, adopted by the Banditos, so the lights of the cars being blue is pretty obviously death. And the light behind them while on stage are more of a yellow color, symbolizing they give hope to others, but there are light shining back on them from the front of the stage, meaning there fans give them hope in return, especially as they echo the words back at them. The strong transition form blue to Yellow is like they are pushing back agents the idea of surrendering. With the lirics that cause this change being "Can't change what you've done" (which to me is being told to accept what you did, that bad things really did happen) and "Start Fresh next semester" (which to me is saying you can forgive yourself and others and keep trying, keep moving forward.) This hope pushing back agents despair and gives Tyler himself strengths as he is now standing firm agents the cars that are now going around him, instead of him moving out of the way. Even pointing and calling out the lights as they go by.

The lights going blue at the end are interesting as it's either the band claiming the color for themselves, (like they are doing with red, which originally was blurry face's color, but now is Clancy's) or Tyler is being lured away, back into the street at the end. Meaning it's something he is still going through. When he is alone, and the show is over, he'll have to face those thoughts again, but this time he has the memory of the show, the hope he both gave and received. The fight isn't over, but he is stronger now.

I love this :) I’ve been a huge top fan ever since I can remember (I’m a teen lol) but I’ve never been too caught up on lore, so I didn’t know what yellow typically represented for them. Yellow is my favorite color and it means a lot to me, so it theoretically symbolizing hope and fighting back makes me pretty dang happy :]

Nobody can tell a better story using music than these guys.
It starts out like a cool 90s rock song with a guy yelling “hey kid get out of the road” like he’s just annoying by some dumb kid in the street, but then the tempo changes, the uke comes out, and as this beautiful music plays you realize that driver wasn’t annoyed with him, but genuinely cared and delivered the foreshadowed life changing message “you can’t change what you’ve done, start fresh next semester”…this is more than just music, it’s art.

The song is remembering his life as a young, angry and depressed teenager. They took inspiration of rock genres from that time period and blended them all in one song. Incredible. How are they so versatile?! Tyler can rap insanely well on stuff like Overcompensate and Levitate, sing melodically on songs like Legend, or be an absolute polymath by pushing this punk-rock esque vibe on what is easily one of the coolest tracks they’ve put out in a while. I think it's because the healing message in the lyrics comes first, and the style of music second. He's not really tied to one genre that he loves above all others, so it's free to experiment with different styles all the time. As long as the lyrical themes are still there it's a T0P song, whatever the music sounds like.

I get that there is metaphor and symbolism attached to the lyrics and mv, but in my current situation as a final year student I can’t help but take the lyrics at face value. While this is my last semester, the sentiment of putting the difficulties behind me and ‘starting fresh’ from here on is quite inspiring to me. I think I’m realizing that this whole lore isn’t just based on Tyler’s fight with mental health, but also him dealing with his “attempt.” I feel like the Heavydirtysoul music video was him first taking that moment head on, hence the car burning up and then he escapes into trench after battling it and he is feeling better. I feel like this music video shows that the cycle never breaks and he has to face it again, but since he is in a better mental state he’s pretty much reliving it through this video. It was obviously a really traumatic experience and it makes this song so sad but so beautiful at the same time.

This song is literally what my darkest time was. I used to walk down the side of the street close to the gutter and look for cars because I didn't want to be there. A few times, I went out in the middle of the street and just sat on the ground on the yellow lines. I totally cried listening to this. I am doing so much better now and my "next semester" is going better.
