The End
Fitz and the Tantrums Lyrics

Something's gotta get through
If you wanna stay, you
Need to find a place for me
You're always sayin' we're through
Then turn around and say you
Can't see no one else but me

Find my way, I
I've been here before
It's a long way down this cold dead end, road
Stretch my wings out
Break away before
Strike these lonely days before they grow, just

(End!) All of our promises
The truth we know we can't save
(End!) All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

If I was to treat her
Like them other sneaker
Surely I would rule as king
But no matter how I treat her
She's always gonna linger
On all the other boys but me

Find my way, I
I've been here before
It's a long way down this cold dead-end road
Stretch my wings out
Break away before
Strike these lonely days before they grow ,just

(End!) All of our promises
The truth we know we can't save
(End!) All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

(End!) All of our promises
The truth we know we can't save
(End!) All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

There's nowhere to go
Just hanging round when
Everything we do keeps crashing down
Sings a song, these songs gone out of style
We're twisting our words when we know we have to

(End!) All of our promises
The truth we know we can't save
(End!) All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

(End!) All of our promises
The truth we know we can't save

(End!) All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

Overall Meaning

"The End" by Fitz and The Tantrums is a song about a failing relationship. The lyrics suggest that the two people involved in the relationship are going through a rough patch, and despite their promises to each other, they know that they cannot save it. The chorus repeats the word "end" several times, almost as if to emphasize that it's time for the relationship to come to a close. The singer wants to find a way out of this situation, and he knows that the only way is to break away before things get worse.

The lyrics also suggest that the singer feels like he's in competition with other men for his partner's affections. He is frustrated by the fact that no matter how he treats her, she always seems to be interested in other guys. He acknowledges that if he were to treat her badly, he might be able to win her over for a while, but he knows that this isn't a sustainable solution.

Overall, "The End" is a melancholy song about the demise of a relationship. The lyrics are raw and emotional, and the melody is catchy without detracting from the song's message. It's a relatable song for anyone who has been through heartbreak, and it's likely to stand the test of time as a classic breakup anthem.

I believe this song and "Fool's Gold" share the same meaning. A couple whose relationship just isn't working out anymore, and they both realize it isn't, so together they'll keep trying to make it work for each other. They know that the "truth they can't save" is that it isn't sparking anything in their love, so in Fool's Gold, they'll just keep at it until they get that spark back, I hope they make a music video for this song and 6am, I can't describe how many times I've imagined how it would go down.
