Five by Five was a group that formed in Magnolia, Arkansas in 1967. The group was made up of Ronnie Plants (lead singer, guitar), Larry Andrew (guitar), Tim Milam (organ, vocals), Bill Merritt (bass), and Doug Green (drums).
"Five by Five" was a jazz band founded by Kelvin Liu, with Sam Dickson in mid-2006. The pair met at school during clarinet instrumental lessons and had a mutual interest in jazz. Fast becoming friends, Sam and Kelvin attended a few school bands and ensembles together. During the course of their musical career they decided to perform on the streets for public donations and performance experience. Their jazz duets led them to discuss the possibilities of starting a band. Neil Skilton and Nelson Allingham were first approached as they were both friends of Sam and Kelvin and held an interest to becoming apart of a jazz band. Christine Wang was invited to join the band, but due to scheduling problems was unable to attend for later rehearsals. Sian Harrick was selected as the new pianist with her previous experience with jazz piano and Sharan Prakash was successfully auditioned into the band as the drummer.
The name "Five by Five" was decided because of its colloquial meaning of everything being fine and its original meaning: "Loud and clear." Its also a term used in Joss Whedon's Buffy- a show that Nelson (the lead singer) and Kelvin are both fans of.
Five by five is also czech gipsy group from BRNO.

Good loving, I got a truck load
And when you get it, you got something
Don't worry, 'cause I'm coming
[Chorus]
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
That ain't all
Got what I got, the hard way
And I'll got make better, each and every day
So honey, I said don't you fret
Cause you ain't seen nothing yet
[Chorus]
I was brought up on a side street, listen now
I learned how to love before I could eat
I was educated, good stock
But when I start lovin' I can't stop
[Chorus]
Well grab the rope,
And I'll pull you in
Give you hope,
And be your only boyfriend ya (ya) ya (ya) help!
[Chorus]
The first verse of the song is about a man who is coming to someone special, and he brings along with him a truckload of good loving. He assures that when the person gets the love he has got to give, they won't have to worry about anything because he is coming for them. The chorus says "I'm a soul man" over and over again, which means that he is someone who is full of soul, and is passionate about love and life. The first verse sets the tone for the chorus, which is repeated throughout the song. This is to reinforce the idea that the man really is a soul man, and he is bringing all his passion and love to the person he is singing to.
The second verse suggests that the man worked hard to get where he is, and is always trying to make things better. He tells his lover not to worry, because she hasn't seen anything yet. The third verse delves deeper into his background, where he grew up on a side street and learned to love before he even learned to eat. Although he was educated, he prefers the art of love-making over education. The final repetition of the chorus calls for someone to "grab the rope" and he will "pull you in." He offers hope and promises to be the only boyfriend someone could ever need.
Overall, the song is about a man who is very passionate and motivated to love someone. He is someone who has worked hard for what he has now and is not afraid to love with his whole being. He promises to love with his full power and potency and win the heart of his lover.
