Won't Let Go
Fivefold Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Seems like yesterday that we had it made
But this is not the way that we had planned
And start to understand what happened
To all the times and all the places
I guess it's time, I need to face this
You're not here
That I won't let go, oh no, oh no
All the memories we hold, oh no, oh no
Teach me how to go on without you
And I swear I won't let go, oh no, oh no
Ooh, yeah
So now it's been three years and we're all still here
Living day to day, keeping your memory safe
In everything we say and do
We raise a glass to you, my friend
Remember all the times and all the faces
Missing you that night, it's time to face it
You're right here, you've never been too far away
To hear us say
That we won't let go, oh no, oh no
All the memories we hold, oh no, oh no
Teach us how to go on without you
And I swear we won't let go, oh no, oh no
They say you never know what you have
Until it's gone
These memories keep me wide awake
I know it's been too long
On the silver screen you speak to me
Out of all the things you wanted to be
But you live on in memory
And after all this time I start to see
You are the one who got us here
Threw us across that line, taught us to face our fears
Through stormy weather, we'll stay together
And in our hearts you'll live forever
And that's why we won't let go, oh no, oh no
All the memories we hold, oh no, oh no
Teach us how to go on without you
And I swear we won't let go, oh no, oh no
Oh no, oh no
I swear we won't let go
The song "Won't Let Go" by Fivefold is a heartfelt tribute to a loved one who has passed away. The lyrics speak of the pain of losing someone close and the struggle to come to terms with it. The first verse talks about finding a "ghost of the past," a memory that lingers on and the inability to let go of the happy times they shared. The second verse refers to the passing of three years since the loss but how the memory of the loved one continues to be cherished by everyone close to him/her.
The chorus of the song is a reaffirmation of the promise to never forget and to hold onto memories forever. The lines "All the memories we hold, oh no, oh no/ Teach me how to go on without you/And I swear I won't let go, oh no, oh no" show the deep desire to remember and continue to love the person who has passed away. The bridge speaks of how memories keep the singer "wide awake" and that the person who has passed was the one who "got us here" and taught us to face our fears.
In essence, "Won't Let Go" is a song of remembrance, love, and commitment to never forget the people who have touched our lives.
