My War
Flag Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My war you're one of them
You say that you're my friend
But you're one of them
You don't want to see me live

You don't want me to give
'Cause you're one of them
My war you're one of them
You say that you're my friend

But you're one of them
I might not know what a friend is
All I know is what you're not
'Cause you're one of them

My war you're one of them
You say that you're my friend
But you're one of them
I have a prediction, it lives in my brain

It's with me every day, it drives me insane
I feel it in my heart, that if I has a gun
I feel it in my heart,
I'd want to kill some

I feel it in my heart, the end will come
Come on! My war you're one of them
You say that you're my friend
But you're one of them

Tell me that I'm wrong
Try to sing me your ego song
You're one of them
My war you're one of them

You say that you're my friend

But you're one of them
My War

Overall Meaning

The Flag's song entitled "My War" portrays the main character's frustration towards someone they once considered a friend. Through the lyrics, it is evident that the singer is experiencing a deep conflict internally, and the situation has reached a breaking point. The first verse expresses the singer's feelings of betrayal by someone they thought had their best interests at heart, but this person is pushing them away. The singer sings, "You say that you're my friend, but you're one of them. You don't want to see me live. You don't want me to give. Cause you're one of them."

The second verse continues with this introspective theme, as the singer reflects on what a friend actually is. They realize they may not have a clear understanding of this concept, but they are sure that this person does not embody it. The singer sings, "I might not know what a friend is. All I know is what you're not. Cause you're one of them." The song's chorus repeats several times, with the singer affirming that this person is a part of their war.

Overall, "My War" is a powerful and emotionally charged song that speaks to the struggles of human relationships. It portrays the complexities of friendship and how it can become a battleground when people fall short of expectations. Through this song, Flag brings to light the importance of being honest with yourself and recognizing when certain people are not meant to be a part of your story.

Bill took a lot from working with Greg when he started Descendents back up. The single note hits are all over ALL. Robo's his first influence too and the hi hat work shows it

this is great just pure intensity and a bunch of guys clearly playing for the simple joy of doing so.  Im sure i'll get some hate for this but id love to see FLAG get Henry involved just for a show or two just for the simple fun of it.  they are already spot on I just think it would be great.  regardless i hope i get the chance to see this live.  what a great chance for those of us who were to young to see black flag in the 70s/80s.  this is awesome!!
