After generating 100 million streams, attracting 100k cumulative social media followers, and receiving acclaim from Pitchfork, MTV, Thissongissick, and many more, the New Jersey-raised and brooklyn-based artist and producer embeds an important affirmation within the framework of his next full-length album, "Daymaker".
Since 2012, he has carved out a niche of his own in addition to collaborating in the studio and on stage with Big Gigantic, Griz, Madeon, Tokimonsta, and Matoma, among others.
Not to mention, he graced the bills of festivals such as Austin City Limits, Electric Forest, Okeechobee, Holy Ship!, and Voodoo Music + arts, to name a few. Critical acclaim followed with Pitchfork describing βbelieve in meβ as βa new summer anthem.β regarding 2016βs bright moments, mtv wrote, βthe producerβs new album weaves smooth 1970s and 1980s samples into perfect grooves.β
In 2019, he began to widen the sonic palette. For the first time, he hit the studio with collaborators to architect what would become daymaker. He worked closely with an all-star cast of musicians, including keyboardist Borahm Lee [pretty lights], Jeff Franca [thievery corporation], Eddie Roberts [the new mastersounds], Hunter Roberts, hip-hop funk duo recess, Mike Tallman of funk and roots outfit euforquestra and the color red label, and more. Now, he introduces daymaker with a brazilian bounce, tropical house flavor, and chilled beats on lead single βwild summer.β
Down For The Fifth Time
Flamingosis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In a distant past
But somehow it's all gone now
Good things can never last
You're down for the third time
And you spent your change
Memories of your prime
Make life seem so strange
Left your mark
In a distant past
But somehow it's all gone now
Good things can never last
You're down for the third time
And you spent your change
Memories of your prime
Make life seem so strange
In Flamingosis's song "Down For The Fifth Time," the lyrics speak to the experience of acknowledging the passage of time and reflecting on the fleeting nature of success and happiness. The line "left your mark in a distant past, but somehow it's all gone now" hints at a past accomplishment or success that was once significant, but has since faded away. The following line, "good things can never last," reinforces the idea that while certain moments of triumph or joy are transient, they are still worth cherishing and remembering.
The chorus, "you're down for the third time and you spent your change," suggests a sense of defeat or frustration that comes with trying to recapture past successes or glories. Additionally, the line "memories of your prime make life seem so strange" reinforces the theme of nostalgia and reflection on past accomplishments. The song ultimately conveys a message about the bittersweet nature of memory and time, and how despite the inevitability of loss and change, it is important to appreciate the moments of happiness and success that come along the way.

This makes me so sad I could cry
about all the little things that are lost and gone
but it was before I was even born.
Why do I feel so strongly
about something that
stopped existing before
I even existed???

I was not alive when the actual film of this video was recorded. But the musician that posted this video alongside their music made their intent explicit.
You don't have to have been alive when these frames of film were first recorded. It is explicitly, and by intent, a remembrance of times long past.
This is fleeting footage of the musical artist's parents being Cool As Hell as young adults
My parents roller bladed with me in a stroller in the early 90s. I have no memory of that, but there are fuzzy recordings of that time just like the video.
