The three girls were initially cast in the mid-1980s for a TV show to be called Fans, which was to feature chats and sing-alongs with guest stars. When plans for the show fell through, a project was started to turn the girls into a pop music group. The group was renamed "Flans" and their first album, Flans, was launched in 1985. Their style was mainly pop music and ballads although one of their albums (Cuéntamelo Dum-Dum) is somewhat child-oriented.
The group released a new album every year until 1990 when they separated, with a national tour and the release of their "last" album Adiós.
After their separation in 1990, Ivonne married and devoted herself to painting; Mimí and Ilse started solo careers, with Mimí also being the host for a TV show.
Rumors of a reunion started in 1999 and were confirmed with the 2000 release of Hadas, although further work by the group has been sporadic.
In 2002, the group changed their name to IIM and released a new album of Electronic versions of their greatest hits.
In 2006, the group returned under the name Flans for a good-bye tour "20 Millas Despues", with a final concert in Mexico City.
Tirare
Flans Lyrics

Pero pretende que me tome otra copa
Yo soy alegre por naturaleza
No quiero ron para bailar en la mesa
Para bailar, para bailar
Para bailar en la mesa
Si lo miro, me da frío
Y me quito
Tiraré, tiraré las cubas
Las tiraré por la ventana
Tiraré, tiraré las cubas
Por la ventana
Mientras él prepara
Otra cuba cargada
Mientras él prepara otra cuba
Tiraré, tiraré las cubas
Mientras él prepara otra cuba cargada
Otra cuba cargada, otra cuba
Quiere que tome para estimularme
Y a mí me basta con sólo mirarle
Le haré creer que no me doy cuenta
Yo nunca perderé la cabeza
Para bailar, para bailar
Y me muestro indiferente
Hoy sólo un beso y será en la frente
En la frente solamente
Tiraré, tiraré las cubas
The lyrics to Flans' song Tirare describe a woman's struggle to resist the advances of a man she finds visually appealing, but whose pressure to drink she does not appreciate. The verses suggest that the woman is typically happy-go-lucky and does not need alcohol to enjoy herself, but the man's insistence on her joining in the drinking is off-putting. She plays along, pretending to be innocent, but ultimately decides to throw the drinks out the window while the man is occupied making more. Despite his attempts to stimulate her with alcohol, she remains unaffected and will only give him a kiss on the forehead. The song has an upbeat, danceable rhythm and catchy chorus inviting the listener to join in on the refrain of "tirare las cubas" (throw the drinks).
The song appears to convey a message of empowerment and autonomy over one's decisions regarding alcohol consumption, as well as a rejection of societal expectations of women being obliged to participate in stereotypical party behavior. The lyrics highlight the importance of self-respect and standing up for oneself, and do so by juxtaposing the sensuality in the woman's attraction to the man with the rationality in her not wanting to drink. The chorus serves as a rallying cry for listeners to take control of their own party experiences and make choices that align with their personal values.
