3) Flash was an English progressive rock group, formed by former Yes guitarist Peter Banks and vocalist Colin Carter in August 1971. After Peter Banks found himself replaced in Yes by Steve Howe, he set his sights on creating a new band. That band was Flash. The group formed in 1971 when Banks recruited longtime associate Ray Bennett (Gun) along with Colin Carter (Pete Bardens' Camel) and Mike Hough. Original Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye rounded out the group. Flash had a sound that felt a lot like that of Yes on its first two albums, but perhaps with a more pop-oriented texture. The group also had a more free-form approach to its virtuosic jamming, seeming to prefer improvisation to well-charted music. Flash's first album, a self-titled one, was released the following year. Kaye did not stay around very long past that release. Rather than replace him, the group carried on as a four-piece. They released two more albums, In the Can and Out of Our Hands in 1973. The group broke up shortly afterwards.

Day Moon,
Blue Shroud,
No words can say feelings today.
the Time has come to take back everything you owe.
the Time has come to pay back everyone you know.
The lies you told well they ain't gonna help you now.
The crimes you told well they don't matter anyhow.
What are the chances of finding the answers
and using them before you die?
There are so many that haven't found any,
but still they continue to try.
There are some people who sit and they think
that they know so much more than they do.
I am not saying what game they are playing,
but I think you know what is true.
The opening lines of Flash's song Dreams of Heaven set a gloomy atmosphere of a sky turning gray and everything going downhill. The imagery of the sky turning gray and the bottom falling out suggest a sense of hopelessness and despair. The next line "Gone are the dreams of heaven" hints at a loss of faith or hope in a better tomorrow. The repetition of "never again" emphasizes the sense of finality and irrevocable nature of the loss.
The second verse evokes surreal and dreamlike imagery such as "Black Cat, Nine lives," "Soft Pad, Green eyes," "Stone Street, Stone Feet." There is a sense of playfulness and curiosity in these lines. The lines "No words can say feelings today" suggest a kind of ineffable emotional experience that cannot be captured in words. The chorus seems to be a call to action, urging the listener to take responsibility for their past actions and start anew.

Amazing! Had not heard this in years. RIP Mr. Peter Banks. You were incredible.

Perhaps it's more obvious once Peter was a year or more removed from Yes, after forming Flash, just how influential his contributions actually were. His technique and influences, as with Steve Howe's, were quite diverse and inspiring to many others of this era in Prog Rock.

I had this album back in '71...I sure don't remember it though. Nice guitar. Sorry to hear that Peter Banks passed away last year. Another guitar-player in heaven. What a jam it will be. If you get a chance, check out the band, SOUP. They have quite a bit posted on Youtube thanks to Chris Yankus - brother of Doug Yankus who passed away in'82. Ken Adamany, manager of Cheap Trick, drove Jimi Hendrix from Madison to Milwaukee to see SOUP in concert. Doug was a genius and if it weren't for his shyness and issues with alcohol, we'd be hearing from him today. Clapton told him to his face; "You're a much better guitarist than me - much more versatile." But...we're here to listen to Flash. Sorry for the rambling, but GOD there were so many excellent guitarists back then.
