3) Flash was an English progressive rock group, formed by former Yes guitarist Peter Banks and vocalist Colin Carter in August 1971. After Peter Banks found himself replaced in Yes by Steve Howe, he set his sights on creating a new band. That band was Flash. The group formed in 1971 when Banks recruited longtime associate Ray Bennett (Gun) along with Colin Carter (Pete Bardens' Camel) and Mike Hough. Original Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye rounded out the group. Flash had a sound that felt a lot like that of Yes on its first two albums, but perhaps with a more pop-oriented texture. The group also had a more free-form approach to its virtuosic jamming, seeming to prefer improvisation to well-charted music. Flash's first album, a self-titled one, was released the following year. Kaye did not stay around very long past that release. Rather than replace him, the group carried on as a four-piece. They released two more albums, In the Can and Out of Our Hands in 1973. The group broke up shortly afterwards.

Morning Haze
Flash Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Fumbling for that pot of gold
Understanding lacks in days gone by
Lions call or Motor Car Vision Halts
Can't see too far
Looking at the haze from today darkness stops the way
Gray hazes is lifting, I can see now
Gray lady peeps thru her window
Wonders on my colors
She can't really see thru morning haze
Evening falls and smothers her window
She can see no more
The day was too short but her green eyes met mine
Come the dawn,excite me
Gray hazes lifting, I can see you now
Loving slumber warms my heart
My dreams are pierced now by you?
Spirit rises greeting morning haze
Evening falls and smothers a window
She can see no more
The day was too short but her green eyes met mine
Come the dawn,excite me
Gray hazes lifting, I can see you now
Come the dawn,excite me
Gray hazes lifting, I can see you now
Come the dawn,excite me
Gray hazes lifting, I can see you now
The lyrics of Flash's song "Morning Haze" seem to be painting a picture of someone who is confused, lost, and uncertain about the direction they are headed. The first verse talks about trying to solve the mysteries in life and reaching for something that seems unattainable, like a pot of gold. The absence of understanding in days gone by suggests that this person has been searching for a long time but has yet to find the answers they seek.
The following verses describe a gray haze that symbolizes the confusion and uncertainty that is plaguing the singer. They can't see too far ahead and the darkness seems to be blocking their way, preventing them from moving forward. The gray lady looking through her window represents the search for clarity and understanding. She's wondering about the colors that surround her, but she can't see through the morning haze.
As the day progresses, the gray haze lifts, and the singer becomes more hopeful. Her spirit rises to greet the morning haze, and she's able to see more clearly. The day may have been short, but her green eyes meet someone else’s, offering a sense of connection and direction. In the end, the dawn brings excitement and a sense of renewal, as the gray haze lifts and the singer can see more clearly.
