Down Among the Dead Men
Flash and the Pan Lyrics
It was night
A starry moonless sight
Out in the mid Atlantic
There sailed a ship of light
She was big This ship of luxury
Everything was peaceful
No safer place to be
And she sailed
Through the night
Down among the dead men
Down among the dead men
The band played
She sailed the virgin
She sailed the sea
Down among the dead men
Captain Smith
The master in command
A man with wealth of wisdom
A fine upstanding man
But the fog He didn't hear the calls
The ice mountain was waiting
For fifteen hundred souls
And she sailed
Through the night
On her way Down among the dead men
Down among the dead men
The band played
She sailed the virgin
She sailed the sea
Down among the dead men
Down among the dead men
And into history

Flash and the Pan (aka Flash & The Pan) was a New Wave / Rock band from Australia formed in 1977 by Harry Vanda and George Young, the older brother of the AC/DC members Angus Young and Malcom Young. Both formerly members of The Easybeats. In the UK, until the release of "Waiting for a Train" in 1983 they had been a one-hit wonder, which was coincidental as the expression, 'Flash in the pan', denotes something which is only briefly popular.

WELLLL I finally found a clip I edited on ABC TV s FLASHEZ . This was shot in the studio at Gore Hill and we cut it in the Cottage cutting rooms. We used library stock film and inter - cut it into the studio scenes... Great band Great time and sad to hear of the passing of George. Incidently, the Captain was played by Leo Bradley - George... a producer of the show. What a great time ... the program went to air about 4:30 in the arvo. We had 2 cutting rooms and... ohhh I could go on....The ABC most likely destroyed most of the "Flashez"programs, because it was only a kids program... it went to air from 1976 to 1978.. when ....it was canned....

@Ben's Beard great if they could be posted..

Think only 6 full episodes of Flashez now exist, along with numerous other short clips including a very young Midnight Oil

@Terry Morrissey My pleasure, thanks. Flashez was fantastic & Kobe Steele, the compere was too cool.. You're right, even kids had incredible freedom then/70's & music was everywhere ALL the time

A fantastic timeless classic.
For me I cannot split the difference with 'Hey St.Peter' as to which is greater...Brilliant song writing at its absolute best.

I gravitate towards Hey St. Peter because it's got more different parts - that build-up with the piano in the middle is just astonishing. Plus, augmented AND diminished chords, yeah! (The augmented chord is a bit of a signature F&TP move.)

This is a far better tribute to the Titanic than that pants ballad by Celine Dion.
