1) Flat Earth Society was founded in 1998, when no-nonsense artist, former architect, clarinettist, saxophonist, keyboard player, composer and producer Peter Vermeersch, wanted to explore new horizons after having convinced music lovers all over the word with Maximalist! and the cult legend band X-legged Sally. Vermeersch, who worked with international artists like Josse De Pauw, Wim Vandekeybus, Vincent Bal, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Fred Frith, The Simpletones and Jazzwork from Berlin and wrote music for the Arditti Quartet, PrimaLa Musica and theSmithQuartet, assembled a pack of inspired and inimitable musicians, forming a big band which has nowadays become much more than just a big band. Peter Vermeersch included, the band now consists of a permanent group of 15 musicians: Stefaan Blancke (trombone), Benjamin Boutreur (saxes), Berlinde Deman (bass tuba), Bart Maris (trumpet), Michel Mast (saxes), Marc Meeuwissen (trombone), Kristof Roseeuw (double bass), Luc Van Lieshout (trumpet), Bruno Vansina (saxes), Peter Vandenberghe (keyboards & compositions), Teun Verbruggen (percussion), Pierre Vervloesem (guitar), Wim Willaert (accordion), Tom Wouters (clarinet, percussion).

The music of Flat Earth Society, varying from strictly written sheet music to liberating improvisation, is 95% homemade. Streaks of music of other composers are used as inspiration, frequently arranged, adapted and integrated into Flat Earth Society compositions, adding a wide range of atmospheres and styles to the eclectic Flat Earth Society universe. Flat Earth Society, who dare to flirt with other disciplines such as theatre and film and have the ability to seduce a number of different audiences, from more select jazz listeners to a wild young rock public, is at its best live on stage.

Mike Patton discovered the music of Flat Earth Society. He immediately proposed the band to release their next album and in attendance of that album he wanted to bring out a compilation album in the US. Isms was compiled by Mike Patton himself. Flat Earth Society joined Patton’s band Fantômas on their European tour in Italy, Belgium, Holland, France, Switzerland and England.

2) Flat Earth Society is a 60s psych pop/rock band from Lynn, just North of Boston. Flat Earth Society were notable for their crispy, clear vocal sound. In early 1968 they were approached by the Boston advertising firm Quinn and Johnson to make an album and a jingle for the manufacturer of the 'Waleeco' candy bar - the F. B. Washburn Candy Company. That year every 'Waleeco' bar carried a coupon advertising the Flat Earth's Society's album Waleeco for $1.50 and six 'Waleeco' bar wrappers.
Recorded at Fleetwood Recording Studio in Revere, most of the material was written by Kerivan, the only non-original being a slow melodic version of Midnight Hour. The album covers quite a wide rock spectrum with goodtime (I'm So Happy), folk (When You're There and The Prelude For Town Monk), hard rock (Four & Twenty Miles and Shadows), as well as psychedelia, but each track has the band's own style about it. Aside from Feelin' Much Better, the best tracks are arguably on the second side of the album. Dark Street Downtown has some haunting vocals superimposed upon swirling piano. Portrait In Grey is a haunting piano-oriented instrumental and Satori, a very strange psychedelic instrumental.
The band made a few appearances after making the album but broke up soon after.

(there's a lot here, sorry) It's very trivial to understand, but you have to think about it for yourself. Look at the picture at the time I marked. If you were to create a small container as shown in the picture, the water would not look like that. Why? Because the water is being pulled towards the ground beneath you, towards Earth, therefore there would be no reason for the water to be curved in the container, that is illogical thinking.

However, due to our tiny scale, at any given point, the surface of Earth appears flat, when in reality the entire surface of Earth is curved. We all understand that Earth is huge, regardless of your notion of it's shape, and there is one constant that you must be aware of:

Consider for a moment in your mind, that Earth is in fact a sphere, just for this scenario. That's an insanely large sphere. Now what would happen if you put a human onto that insanely large sphere? What would they see? Well, considering the size difference of a human compared to earth (Earth is about 3.5 million times larger than a human), the ground would appear completely flat, because they are so small compared to the scale of Earth that they would be seeing such a tiny fraction of Earth's curvature, so much so that it would be unnoticeable.

Another way of thinking about it would be to think about an ant on a tennis ball. As the ant walks around the spherical tennis ball, it would definitely feel the curvature, because each step the ant takes, it covers a decent percentage of the tennis balls curvature, so the ant would be able to tell that the surface is curved. Moreover, it would also be able to see the curvature, due to the fact that the tennis ball is not that much larger than itself. However, what would happen as you started to increase the size of the tennis ball? As you increase the size more and more, each step the ant takes would be a lesser distance around the ball's curvature. Therefore, the ground beneath the ant would be more flat, because it is standing on such a small percentage of the sphere's total curvature. If the tennis ball and ant were to reach the same ratio as Earth is to a human (3.5 Million : 1), the ant would no longer be able to see or feel any curvature at it's scale.

One final simple way to think about it is just to imagine looking at a 2d circle, and imagine zooming in on some point on its surface. Keep zooming. Keep zooming. Keep zooming, and keep zooming. As you zoom in, more and more, the surface appears more and more flat. Why? Again, because as you zoom in, you are looking at such a small portion of its curvature, that it becomes unnoticeable. This is the most important thing to understand: Upon zooming in very closely, the surface of the circle will appear COMPLETELY FLAT, even though you know in reality, the shape you are zoomed in on, is in fact curved.

So all I want to say here is, taking into account Earth's size, it is an undeniable fact that IF Earth is indeed a sphere, it would still appear flat at our scale, and the same goes for water that resides on Earth as well. It appears flat from a human's miniscule perspective, but is in fact curved at it's total scale. So saying "Earth and water look flat at our scale!!" and "We never see water curve!!" are completely illogical statements to make when discussing the shape of Earth.

The funny thing is, at this point in our understanding and advancement we no longer need to "prove" a curve. It's accepted and used in everyday calculations, experiments and physics itself. If the earth is round like a ball then why does everyone on earth see the moon at night for most days of the month when the moon is "supposed" to be in locked with earths gravitational pull. If you believe the earth is round like a ball then that would mean the moon is always on the opposite side of the earth from the sun because how would everyone on all sides of the earth see the moon at night when your on a country that facing towards the stars and the moon is not up in the sky on your side.

The Earth spins so each side doesn’t always face the sun, in turn meaning not everyone sees the moon at the same time. If the earth was flat, everyone would be able to see the moon just in different places in the sky.

Can you explain why we see the same stars every night all year round? when the earth is supposed to be on different sides from the sun in winter and summer. The first gentleman's concept that scientists should be open to every concept imaginable is a popular misconception, I think. The core purpose of science is really to rule ideas out through testing. Either an idea matches the evidence better than others or it doesn't, and if it doesn't, you move on from it unless updated evidence makes it viable again. Quite a lot of ideas don't even survive initial inspection as a result because they contravene some piece of basic evidence.

Ask yourself why logs, apple, etc float on water and float up underwater, while rocks, cars, metal sink? Why does gravity not affect somethings or why does helium move up in oxygen?
