Founded in 2012 by longtime friends Cleto Cordero (guitar, vocals) and Jason Albers (drums), Flatland Cavalry eventually blossomed into a five-piece with the additions of Jonathan Saenz (bass), Laura Jane (fiddle), and Reid Dillion (guitar). After raising recording costs with a crowd-funding campaign, the band released its debut EP, Come May, independently in 2015; it was quickly scooped up by California-based booking agency Atomic Music Group. The following year saw Flatland Cavalry issue their first full-length outing, Humble Folks. The album fared well, rising to 38 on the nationwide Top Country Albums chart, and 17 on the Americana/Folk Albums survey. The group toured heavily in support of Humble Folks, and changed their management to the Texas-based firm DBL Music Group. By the time Flatland Cavalry issued their second album, 2019's Homeland Insecurity, Laura Jane had left the band, with Wesley Hall taking over on fiddle. ~ James Christopher Monger & Mark Deming, Rovi
Missing you
Flatland Cavalry Lyrics

and you're heading back home
you found yourself a wealthy man
who plans to make you all his own
You know me, I'm doing just fine
Cigarettes and Adderall been keeping me alive
I've been going right back
To a special time
Cuz I've been missing you, I've been missing you
I've been hoping that you'd been missing me too
Cuz I've been missing you, I've been missing you
All this time
No, it wouldn't take long
to fix all this
Just say the words I'd give it all up
For just one more kiss
And I can't complain
of the disarray
I guess all I'm saying is it's hard to sleep at night in the bed I've made
Cuz I've been going right back
To a special time
I'm going right back to when you were mine
Cuz I've been missing you, I've been missing you
I've been hoping that you'd been missing me too
I've been missing you, I've been missing you
All this time
Looking back, we used to turn heads
These days I turn mine and you ain't in my bed
Cuz I've been missing you, I've been missing you
And I've been hoping that you've been missing me too
Cuz I've been missing you, I've been missing you
All this time
All of this time
The lyrics of "Missing You," by Flatland Cavalry, tell the story of a person who has recently learned that their former lover is returning home with a wealthy man who plans to make her his own. The singer admits that they have been struggling without their ex, turning to cigarettes and Adderall to cope. They long to go back to a special time when they were together, when things were easier and they were happy. They express their longing, wishing that their ex has been missing them too. They even offer to give up their current lifestyle, just to spend one more moment with their former partner, but they accept that it may be too late.
The song is a perfect example of the classic tale of the one that got away. The singer is struggling with memories of a relationship that ended prematurely, while their ex has moved on to a seemingly better life. The song is melancholy yet hopeful, with a simple acoustic guitar melody and soulful vocals that convey the emotions of the lyrics. This song will resonate with anyone who has ever had a love that they lost and continues to haunt them.
