Go & Come Back
Fleeting Joys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I thought I saw you standing next to me
I thought I knew you open where I could see

I thought you knew me fully without a shadow
I want a new me left with something to share

Overall Meaning

The first two lines of "Go And Come Back" by Fleeting Joys suggest that the singer has a strong connection with someone, likely a romantic partner. The opening line begins with "I thought I saw you standing next to me," suggesting that perhaps this important figure has been physically absent from the singer's life for some time. Nevertheless, their presence still lingers in the singer's mind. The following line, "I thought I knew you open where I could see," suggests the singer may have believed that they had a deep understanding of their partner's personality and innermost thoughts.

However, the later lines of the verse reveal a sense of uncertainty within the relationship. "I thought you knew me fully without a shadow," suggests that the singer may feel that they have not completely revealed themselves to their partner. This lack of transparency could perhaps be contributing to the feeling of disconnect between them. The final line of the verse, "I want a new me left with something to share" could be interpreted in multiple ways, but likely serves as a cry for growth and change within the relationship. The singer may feel that they have become stagnant and want something new to arise within themselves that they can then bring to the relationship.

I thought I saw you standing next to me
I thought I knew you open where I could see

Break, explode
The wonder's falling out
Break, explode
The one day

Break, explode
The wonder's falling out
Break, explode
The one day

We had a German exchange student in our class freshman year. We hung out every day and passed our iPods back and fourth showing our favorite artists. For some reason he had a huge obsession with MBV even though he could barely speak english. One day he showed me this new band he was listening to. I was blown away and I’m still in love with Fleeting Joys almost 13 years later. Great memories. Thank you, Klaus! Wherever you are, buddy!

Forever ethereal. Captures the essence of shoegaze. I’m sure MBV would approve!
