That's All For Everyone
Fleetwood Mac Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

That's all for everyone
That's all for me
That's all for everyone (ooh)
Must be just exactly what I need
I care for everyone
I cry for more
That's all for everyone (ooh)
Must be just exactly what I need
That's all

I need somewhere to go
That's all
Must be what I need
That's all
I need someone to know
That's all
Must be what I need

I can't stay
I can't deceive
That's all for everyone
Must be just exactly what I need
So that's all for everyone
That's all for me
That's all for everyone
Must be just exactly what I need
That's all

I need someone to know
That's all
Must be what I need
That's all
I need somewhere to go
That's all
Must be what I need
Ooh
Must be what I need
Ooh
That's all for everyone

Must just be exactly what I need
That's all
I need someone to know
That's all
(Must be what) must be what I need
That's all
I need somewhere to go
That's all
I need someone to know
Must be what I need
That's all

I need somewhere to go
Must be what I need

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "That's All for Everyone" by Fleetwood Mac express a sense of longing and restlessness that can be read as an expression of spiritual searching or personal dissatisfaction. The repeated refrain of "That's all for everyone / That's all for me" suggests a desire for something more, while the lines "I need someone to know / I need somewhere to go" suggest a need for connection and purpose. The song seems to be aware of the limited capacity of material things to satisfy these needs ("Must be just exactly what I need"), and suggests that the fulfillment the singer seeks may lie beyond the physical world.

The lyrics use repetition and ambiguity to evoke a sense of uncertainty and possibility. The repeated "oohs" and "that's all" create a hypnotic effect, drawing the listener into the singer's yearning. At the same time, the lines "Must be just exactly what I need" leave open the possibility that the singer's desires may be misconstrued or unattainable. The simple but evocative lyrics, combined with the lush instrumentation of the song, give "That's All for Everyone" a haunting quality that invites reflection on the deeper mysteries of existence.

Lindsey did all the vocals on his songs on Tusk. He recorded them in his home bathroom/studio and overdubbed his vocals

In my opinion one of the top ten rock bands EVER, and arguably, one of the top
five! Superb vocals and guitars, the crazy drummer, he is FANTASTIC! Oh I wish I
could re-live some of those days of long ago (well back in the 1970''s and 1980's
were super great as the best rock music ever in history. We sure did get great
treatment for music. And great music of other kinds as well). I don't know what it
was about the 1970's and 1980's, but those times were special in many ways!
