Go your own Way
Fleetwood Mac (Mark II) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Isn't the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
That I feel
If I could
Maybe I'd give you my world
How can I
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up is all you want to do
If I could
Baby, I'd give you my world
Open up
Everything's waiting for you
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
The song "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac is a reflective piece that expresses the struggles of breaking away from a romantic relationship that is no longer working. The lyrics in the song describe a situation where one partner is finding it difficult to let go of the relationship, while the other just wants to move on. The chorus resolves the situation with a plea to the partner to move on and find their own way, instead of trying to hold onto something that wasn't working.
The first verse speaks of the difficulties that the singer is experiencing. They love their partner, but they know deep down that it's not the right thing to do. They question how they can ever change their feelings towards the relationship. "If I could, maybe I'd give you my world," shows that they want to try and salvage the relationship, but their partner won't let them. The chorus repeats multiple times and emphasizes the message that the partner should go their own way.
The second verse refers to the partner's desire to move on and just "pack up and shack up" with someone else. The singer asks why everything has turned around and what the cause for the change is. The line "Open up, everything's waiting for you" suggests that the singer is trying to encourage their partner to let go and embrace new possibilities.

RIP Christine. Your vocals will never die on this song.

Christine was backup in this song. She's barely audible, if at all.

Lindsey Buckingham sings this song...

I liked Christine the best when she was singing background and playing the Hammond and Fender. I had a creep crush on her. I loved when she tuned her instruments on demos and live shows. It sounded symphonic.
