Inside
Flesh Field Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everything explodes from the inside,
Saturating all of me and you.
Everything within the chapel dies,
And everything that you believed in, too.

Godlike steel,
I can feel your pain.
Siding with the enemy of hope.
Tearing down the walls of fantasy.
I can't hear the words that he had spoken.
Tearing down this frail reality.

I see the light of day burning through my eyes.
I stare anyway, severing my ties.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Flesh Field's "Inside" seem to be referencing an internal battle, one that is happening within the individual himself. The first line, "Everything explodes from the inside," suggests that there is a great deal of intense emotion within the singer, something so strong that it feels as though it might burst outwards. This intense feeling is also being shared by the people around him; "saturating all of me and you" suggests that everyone is feeling the same thing.

The second line, "Everything within the chapel dies," takes on a more religious tone. The word "chapel" could refer to any religious institution, and the idea that "everything" within it is dying seems to suggest that the singer has lost faith. "And everything that you believed in, too" implies that the people around the singer are also losing their faith.

The next few lines are hard to interpret, but seem to suggest that there is some sort of struggle happening between different forces. "Godlike steel, I can feel your pain" might be referring to some sort of divine power, but it's difficult to be sure. "Siding with the enemy of hope" seems to suggest that the singer is taking the side of something negative, rather than something positive.

"Tearing down the walls of fantasy" could be interpreted in a few different ways, but it seems to suggest that the singer is rejecting a more idyllic or naive way of thinking. "I can't hear the words that he had spoken" is difficult to interpret, but could suggest that the singer is trying to distance themselves from a particular person or belief. Finally, "Tearing down this frail reality" seems to suggest that the singer is actively working to destroy their old way of thinking and their old beliefs.
