The group were an important part of the Tokyo Shibuya-kei scene in the 1990s, and Oyamada went on to produce work for Pizzicato Five and his one-time partner Kahimi Karie. The band were never shy to wear their influence on their sleeves, and their song titles often either namechecked their Anglo idols — Goodbye Our Pastels Badges, Haircut 100, Colour Field — or aped them — The Quizmaster from Doctor Head's World Tower treads the line between inspiration and plagiarism of Primal Scream's "Loaded".
Following the demise of the band in 1991, the two members pursued solo careers. Ozawa released the album "The Dogs Bark But The Caravan Moves On" under his own name, and Oyamada recorded under the name of Cornelius.

The lyrics of Flipper's Guitar's song 青春はいちどだけ (Youth is Only Once) describe a night when the singers were digging up an old grave. As they touched it, it crumbled away and disappeared. They feel that this moment will continue on forever, and they can see into the distance. Suddenly, a bell starts ringing out in the cold winter, and even the singer's frustration makes them want to embrace it. They plan to write a letter that will arrive in time for the weekend, and as snow falls in the afternoon, they will seal the letter shut with a sticker that has a name written on it, so cold that it can't be opened. The lyrics end with the repetition of sealing the name in a cruel way, and an invitation to close your eyes and answer.
The song is full of symbolism and imagery, with the act of digging up a grave representing a desire to discover something hidden or unknown. The crumbling of the grave represents the fragility of what was revealed, and the desire to hold onto something that will continue forever despite its fleeting nature. The bell in the cold winter is perhaps a reminder of the passage of time, and the singer's desire to embrace even their frustration shows an acceptance of all emotions as part of the human experience. The sealing of the name in a sticker is a final act of protection, perhaps out of fear or a desire to keep something hidden and safe.
