Dillard was born in the 187th Street projects of Carol City, Florida. His single mother raised him and his seven sisters, some of whom sang in a local gospel group. As a teenager, Dillard worked with local rap group 2 Live Crew and formed his own amateur group with some friends called the Groundhoggz. His work with 2 Live Crew member Fresh Kid Ice attracted attention of DeVante Swing, a member of the band Jodeci. However, he was rejected by several of the major labels, so he sought many other jobs outside of music. After graduating from high school in 1998, he studied international business management at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for two years and attended Barry University for two months. He returned to Florida to continue pursuing his music career after receiving a phone call from a representative of the independent label Poe Boy Entertainment. Dillard signed with Poe Boy in 2006, and as Flo Rida he began affiliating with other Florida rappers, such as Rick Ross, Trina, T-Pain, and Trick Daddy. A promotional street single entitled "Birthday", featuring Rick Ross, was his first significant release. He made his debut guest appearance with the song "Bitch I'm from Dade County" on DJ Khaled's album We the Best, which featured Trick Daddy, Trina, Rick Ross, Brisco, C-Ride, and Dre.

Had a dream of diamonds and stilettos
First class in Miami from the West Coast
Never wanted to be homecoming queen
Not just another girl in the strip club
Working hard, not a dollar's gonna miss her
Big, big bags, I'm gonna tip her
Making sure she's gonna come home with me
One money, two honey
How much can I throw?
And for her I can't say no
I won't let go
I fell in love with a dancer, dancer
Throwing all this cake, ooh
It's your birthday girl, I like that there
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a dancer, dancer
In the champagne room until the sun comes up, oh my god
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a
It's three AM and we're only getting started
In the cab on the way to your apartment
Tonight you made the killing 'cause you're gorgeous
Yeah, we're gonna have a hell of a time
Blew hunneds everywhere like a cartoon
Ooh baby, I can't take my eyes off you
Give it to me like yo mamma never taught you
I'll make it rain for the rest of your life
One money, two honey
How much can I throw?
And for her I can't say no
Oh, I won't let go
I fell in love with a dancer, dancer
Throwing all this cake, ooh
It's your birthday girl, I like that there
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a dancer, dancer
In the champagne room until the sun comes up, oh my god
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a
Nothing gets me going like when she put on a show
Ain't ashamed to say it, I'll let everybody know
You don't have to say no words, you let your body speak
Baby I don't care, no I don't care
I fell in love with a dancer, dancer
Throwing all this cake, ooh
It's your birthday girl, I like that there
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a dancer, dancer
In the champagne room until the sun comes up, oh my god
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a dancer, dancer
Throwing all this cake, ooh
It's your birthday girl, I like that there
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a dancer, dancer
In the champagne room until the sun comes up, oh my god
I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a
The lyrics to Flo Rida's song "Dancer" tell the story of a man who falls in love with a dancer in a strip club. The song portrays the dancer as ambitious and hardworking, someone who aspires for more than just being a homecoming queen. She dreams of a luxurious lifestyle, symbolized by diamonds and stilettos, and eventually achieves it by traveling from the West Coast to Miami in first class. The man is captivated by her beauty and talent, showering her with money and attention.
The lyrics highlight the allure and excitement of the strip club atmosphere, with references to throwing money and partying until the early hours. The dancer's performance seduces the man, and he becomes infatuated with her. He describes her as gorgeous and the cause of his desire for a wild and memorable night. He is willing to spend lavishly on her, promising to make it rain for the rest of her life.
The chorus emphasizes the man's love for the dancer, repeating the phrase "I'm in love with a dancer." It also mentions the champagne room, a VIP area of strip clubs, where the couple continues their celebration until the sun comes up.
Overall, the lyrics of "Dancer" portray a narrative of infatuation and desire, exploring the fantasy world of strip clubs and the captivating power of dancers.
