Floater's regional success was noticed by Elemental Records, who put out their first full-length record, "Sink" in 1994. That same year Floater began a string of sold out shows at the Community Center for the Performing Arts (The WOW Hall) that is still unbroken to this day.
In 1995 Floater released "Glyph" and toured the country for the next two years supporting the record. The single, "Danny Boy" received heavy college and commercial radio play, in many cities outselling major label releases. Floater received nominations to the preliminary level of the Grammy's from NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) in 1995 under Best Rock Performance for "Sink" and in 1996 under Best Alternative Performance for "Glyph." (Prelims are determined by nominations from the NARAS members).
In 1998, following their move to Portland, Oregon (where the band currently resides), Floater released their third full-length record, "Angels in the Flesh and Devils in the Bone." The second concept album by the band ("Sink" was the first), "Angel's" brought a new vibe to Floater. It wasn't long before widespread audiences came to embrace what has now become the band's trademark - their versatility.
September of 2000 brought the release of Floater's fourth full- length record, "Burning Sosobra"; a musical collection that explores the band's broad range of song writing. Following its release, the band began to perform live acoustically. Both the band and the fans enjoyed this new avenue of performance that allowed the "quieter" side of Floater to emerge and be explored. Of late, the band has begun playing shows where acoustic Floater opens for electric Floater - giving a sort of Jekyll and Hyde feel to their performances.
In 2002 Floater released their most critically acclaimed record to date, "Alter." Combining the bands strongest musical elements, "Alter" moves fluidly from heavy riffs to lullabies and tells flowing stories of fear, love and above all change.
August of 2004 - The release of the band's acoustic record, "Acoustics." Fans of Floater's electric shows responded with enthusiasm to the band's occasional acoustic performance - with their record label's encouragement, the band put together a uniquely recorded album - one that mimics the sound of their actual performances. Recorded in a studio built in the ballroom of their producers house, the record was made without digital editing and has a fresh, live feeling.
Floater is also the name of a late nineties indiepop band from Sheffield, UK. They briefly rename themselves Floater UK before later reforming as Dangerlust.

Dreaming of the day of the big divorce.
Hoping somehow that everything will get better
Johnny turns up the music loud.
Sings himself hoarse just to drown them out.
She wants to leave, but they both know he won't let her.
She's not gonna be brave.
To make her attack
when he starts showing his back like a fool yeah.
Been made to take all that she could.
Mother and child, oh make their escape.
Yeah, they left him lying there in a dark pool of his own hate.
There was no time to contemplate.
In a house by the door, there's a rifle with a rusted sight
Taking aim, making sure, going to end it all tonight.
He's the lamb with a loaded gun
Quietly beggin' her to get it done
She looks like a ghost but at least she's not weeping...
She's not gonna be brave.
But she's not gonna be too slow.
To make her attack
when he starts showing his back like a fool.
Yeah oh
Been made to take al that she could.
Mother and child oh make their escape
Oh yeah
They left him lying there in a dark pool of his own hate
There was no time to contemplate
Red
Black
Faces that come undone
Beg,
Plead
And then drop like setting suns
Compassion please
Not until she's
Been broken
Been broken
Oh now day after day learn to swallow down
Bite after bite of all the pride you can
She said, "keep your head when he comes
Bleed and suffering,
Find freedom"
Compassion please not until she's
been broken.
It's ok
It's ok
It's ok
Everything is okay
Everything is okay
The song "Rocking Horse" by Floater portrays a domestic violence situation where a woman is trapped in an abusive relationship with a partner who won't let her go. The singer of the story is Johnny, a child who is dreaming of his parents' divorce as he rocks on his horse, hoping for a better future. The woman in question is still trying to gather the courage to leave, but she's scared of the consequences of her escape. This fear is so overwhelming that she plans to kill herself and her abuser with a rifle with a rusted sight, rather than face the pain of leaving on her own.
The lyrics comment on the complexity of such situations, where leaving is not always easy or simple, especially when there is a power dynamic and fear involved. In this case, the woman is so scared that she's willing to resort to suicide because she doesn't know how to get out. There's a sense of desperation and hopelessness in the song's lines, particularly in the chorus when the singer sings "She's not gonna be brave. She's not gonna be too slow. To make her attack when he starts showing his back like a fool yeah."
The rest of the song talks about the aftermath of the escape, where the mother and child leave the abuser lying in a dark pool of his own hate, and how they're trying to cope with the trauma. The song's powerful message serves as a reminder that domestic violence is a serious issue that affects millions of people and that we need to continue to raise awareness and support victims.
