Floor was sixteen when she joined After Forever in 1997 and the band released its first album, Prison of Desire, three years later. Floor's ability to sing in styles native to both classical and rock music have made her popular in the metal scene. She took sole charge of After Forever's lyrics and vocal melodies upon the departure of Mark Jansen in 2002. Prior to this, until the release of the Decipher album, the two wrote together.
Floor started studying music at the Dutch Rock academy in 1999 and entered the conservatory three years later. She studied Musical Theatre and one year of Opera. She is a Light Lyric Soprano. Her whole range isn't shown yet on After Forever albums. She later started teaching performing in her own course, entitled "Wanna be a Star?!". Her dream is to sing in a musical theatre.
Floor plays the guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies.
Three albums by the Dutch composer and multi-instrumentalist Arjen Anthony Lucassen include guest vocals from Floor. She performed guest vocals for the song "My House on Mars", from Ayreon's Universal Migrator, Part 1: The Dream Sequencer, made a number of contributions to the Star One project, and plays the character "Ω" on Ayreon's album 01011001. She has also performed guest vocals for French power metal band Nightmare, appearing on the title track and "A Taste of Armageddon" from their 2005 album, "The Dominion Gate".
After the demise of After Forever, Floor created her own symphonic metal band, ReVamp. In 2012 following the departure of their lead vocalist Anette Olzon, Nightwish brought in Jansen as a touring member until the end of their Imaginaerum World Tour. In 2013, they announced Jansen was now their full-time lead vocalist; she subsequently disbanded ReVamp to focus on Nightwish
In 2018, she and Pagan's Mind guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad premiered their hard rock duo Northward.
A frequent collaborator of Arjen Anthony Lucassen, Jansen is a member of his progressive metal supergroup Star One, and sang in the Ayreon albums Universal Migrator Part 1: The Dream Sequencer, 01011001, and The Source, as well as the live album Ayreon Universe – The Best of Ayreon Live. She also sang lead vocals in several songs of the MaYan album Quarterpast and in Avalon's Angels of the Apocalypse. She is the older sister of fellow singer Irene Jansen, who also worked with Ayreon.

Oblivion
Floor Jansen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But our love was a song sung by a dying swan
And in the night, you hear me calling
You hear me calling
And in your dreams you see me falling, falling
Breathe in the light
I'll stay here in the shadow
Higher, and higher, and higher
And when the nights are long
All those stars recall your goodbye, your goodbye
And in the night you'll hear me calling
You'll hear me calling
And in your dreams you'll see us falling, falling
And in the night you'll hear me calling
You'll hear me calling
And in your dreams you'll see us falling, falling
Breathe in the light and say goodbye
Breathe in the light and say goodbye
The floor Jansen song "Oblivion" talks about a love that was destined to happen from a young age. However, the relationship between the two was reminiscent of a dying swan song, meaning that it was a relationship that was doomed from the start. In the chorus, the singer of the song talks about how they call out to their lover during the night, and how they are falling in their dreams. The second verse talks about waiting for a sign, as the tide grows higher and higher. The song ends with the singer asking their lover to breathe in the light and say goodbye.
The song's lyrics are haunting and tell the story of a love that was doomed from the start. The use of the dying swan as a metaphor for the relationship gives the song a sad and tragic tone. The lines "And in the night, you hear me calling, you hear me calling/And in your dreams you see me falling, falling" are repeated throughout the song, which gives the song a sense of urgency and desperation.
Overall, "Oblivion" is a beautiful song that captures the pain and sadness of a relationship that was never meant to last. The lyrics are emotive, and with Jansen's haunting vocals, "Oblivion" is a song that stays with the listener long after it has ended.

5 years ago I lost my wife to cancer. She was a classically trained opera singer and vocal teacher. For 25 years I listened to her sing and teach young vocalist from every part of our home. I miss that a lot. Listening to you sing anything, brings that back to me. Tears to my eyes always. I'm 61 years old and not afraid to admit that. If you would like to cover the song Via Dolorosa at some time that would be great. Cried every time my wife sang it. Please keep singing, the world needs more of that now. Thank you for your beautiful voice.
