Oblivion
Floor Jansen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Since I was young, I knew I'd find you
But our love was a song sung by a dying swan
And in the night, you hear me calling
You hear me calling
And in your dreams you see me falling, falling

Breathe in the light
I'll stay here in the shadow
Waiting for a sign, as the tide grows
Higher, and higher, and higher

And when the nights are long
All those stars recall your goodbye, your goodbye

And in the night you'll hear me calling
You'll hear me calling
And in your dreams you'll see us falling, falling
And in the night you'll hear me calling
You'll hear me calling
And in your dreams you'll see us falling, falling

Breathe in the light and say goodbye
Breathe in the light and say goodbye

Overall Meaning

The floor Jansen song "Oblivion" talks about a love that was destined to happen from a young age. However, the relationship between the two was reminiscent of a dying swan song, meaning that it was a relationship that was doomed from the start. In the chorus, the singer of the song talks about how they call out to their lover during the night, and how they are falling in their dreams. The second verse talks about waiting for a sign, as the tide grows higher and higher. The song ends with the singer asking their lover to breathe in the light and say goodbye.

The song's lyrics are haunting and tell the story of a love that was doomed from the start. The use of the dying swan as a metaphor for the relationship gives the song a sad and tragic tone. The lines "And in the night, you hear me calling, you hear me calling/And in your dreams you see me falling, falling" are repeated throughout the song, which gives the song a sense of urgency and desperation.

Overall, "Oblivion" is a beautiful song that captures the pain and sadness of a relationship that was never meant to last. The lyrics are emotive, and with Jansen's haunting vocals, "Oblivion" is a song that stays with the listener long after it has ended.

5 years ago I lost my wife to cancer. She was a classically trained opera singer and vocal teacher. For 25 years I listened to her sing and teach young vocalist from every part of our home. I miss that a lot. Listening to you sing anything, brings that back to me. Tears to my eyes always. I'm 61 years old and not afraid to admit that. If you would like to cover the song Via Dolorosa at some time that would be great. Cried every time my wife sang it. Please keep singing, the world needs more of that now. Thank you for your beautiful voice.
