They started writing material based on their love for music like AJJ, Joyce Manor, and Bomb The Music Industry!, combining a confessional and heartbreaking lyrical style with the punk stylings of their teenage years. They began playing as Floral Tattoo, naming themselves after a Spotify playlist of a friend's. After leaving the Seattle area and moving to Chico, CA, they continued to write and play shows as Floral Tattoo, eventually moving back to Washington. They then formed a full-electric Floral Tattoo band - featuring Nico Pellowski on bass, Christian Taylor on drums, and Gwen Power as a multi-instrumentalist. The songs became augmented in a way they never had before, combining the previous songs with emo, dream pop, and shoegaze influence. They would record their debut album, "Approaching Bearable", in the late fall of 2017 and release it the following March.
Travis Powell would replace Pellowski on bass in the fall of 2018, and the band would being recording their second record in December of that year. Christian Taylor was replaced by Jake Kelly (also of Newbrighton) in February of 2019, and the band would wrap up recording their second album "You Can Never Have a Long Enough Head Start" that May. A grueling 5-month mixing process followed, with the album being released in January of 2020 to moderate critical acclaim.

Floral Tattoo Lyrics
Needle in the arm, feeling fading from me.
Better close my eyes, lest I pass out.
Pink around the wrist, I’m free to go now.
Leave through the front door,
and I don’t know where I’m going
or what I’m gonna do with my life.
Drink some water, you didn’t lose a whole lot of blood back there,
but a loss of blood’s still a loss of blood.
So drink up, drink up, and so a toast, to all the things we’re leaving behind.
To deadnames, addictions, and bodies that we hate,
to cancers and blood clots and the risks that we take,
to a new day, say hey, drink up while you can,
because water is something we need to survive.
Over and over the hormones they're taking over
I’m afraid to admit it, but I guess I’ll admit that
I don’t know where I’m going,
or what I’m gonna do with my life.
To hell with it all,
I have broken the bindings around my wrists, and they fall.
I am no longer stuck in this disgusting frame.
My whole life I’ve been told to be who you are,
but I haven’t been able to do that thus far,
until somebody told me that I wasn’t all alone.
Better close my eyes, lest I pass out.
Pink around the wrist, I’m free to go now.
Leave through the front door,
and I don’t know where I’m going
or what I’m gonna do with my life.
