Girl with One Eye
Florence + the Machine Lyrics
She told me not to step on the cracks
I told her not to fuss and relax
Pretty little face stopped me in my tracks
But now she sleeps with one eye open
That's the price she'll pay
I took a knife and cut out her eye
I took it home and watched it wither and die
Well, she's lucky that I didn't slip her a smile
That's why she sleeps with one eye open
I said, hey, girl with one eye
Get your filthy fingers out of my pie
I said, hey, girl with one eye
I'll cut your little heart out 'cause you made me cry
I slipped my hand under her skirt
I said don't worry, it's not gonna hurt
Oh, my reputation's kinda clouded with dirt
That's why you sleep with one eye open
But that's the price you pay
I said, hey, girl with one eye
Get your filthy fingers out of my pie
I said, hey, girl with one eye
I'll cut your little heart out 'cause you made me cry
You made me cry
You made me cry
You made me cry
I said, hey, girl with one eye
Get your filthy fingers out of my pie
I said, girl with one eye
Get your filthy fingers out my pie
I said, hey, girl with one eye
Get your filthy fingers out of my pie
I said, hey, girl with one eye
I'll cut your little heart out 'cause you made me cry

A cover for a Ludes song.
This is one of several songs on Lungs dealing with violence and death. Welch told The New Musical Express January 10, 2009: "Well, what other subject is there? I remember realising that my parents were going to die and weeping. Weeping as if my father had actually died."
In this lo-fi punk number, the singer threatens to cut someone's heart out because they made them cry. Welch told The Independent June 27, 2009: "I've always been attracted to dark imagery. Read Full BioA cover for a Ludes song.

The "get your filthy fingers out of my pie" is an expression. It means when someone is interested or involved with a lot of different things they "have their fingers in a lot of different pies". The singer is basically telling the girl to get out of their business.

Although this is an interesting song, my opinion is this was attempted murder and attempted rape, as ' ' one eye ' ' sounds like she mightve hurt her in a way that had to have the eye removed, probably an infection maybe?
And slipping her hand under her skirt.... You know the rest.

@Julia Tuccillo Understandable, but we can both agree to disagree based on our personal opinions.

@Pashenka The "she told me not to step on the cracks" and "pretty little thing stopped me in my tracks" lines gives the song a vibe that's closer to revenge than just straight assault in my personal read on it. I've seen people say the pie line is about assault but the singer wouldn't be the one saying "get your filthy fingers out of my pie" since they aren't the victim, if that makes sense

It's more about rape or attempted sexual assault, but I see what you mean.

Does anyone understand the reference to pie? Like was Florence just feeling protective over pastry? Or what?

"I have my thumbs in alot of pies" it just means get out of my business
