Dirt
Florida/georgia Line Lyrics

You get your hands in it
Plant your roots in it
Dusty head lights dance with your boots in it (dirt)

You write her name on it
Spin your tires on it
Build your corn field, whiskey
Bonfires on it (dirt)
You bet your life on it

Its that elm shade
Red roads clay you grew up on
That plowed up ground That your dad
Damned his luck on That post game party field
You circled up on
And when it rains You get stuck on
Drift a cloud back Behind county roads
That you run up
The mud on her jeans that she peeled off
And hung up
Her blue eyed Summer time smile
Looks so good that it hurts
Makes you wanna build
A 10 percent down
White picket fence house on this dirt

You’ve mixed some sweat with it
Taken a shovel to it
You’ve stuck some crosses and some painted
Goal posts through it (dirt)
You know you came from it (dirt)
And some day you’ll return to

Its that elm shade
Red roads clay you grew up on
That plowed up ground that your dad
Damned his luck on that post game party field
You circled up on
And when it rains you get stuck on
Drift a cloud back Behind county roads
That you run up
The mud on her jeans that she peeled off
And hung up
Her blue eyed summer time smile
Looks so good that it hurts
Makes you wanna build
A 10 percent down
White picket fence house on this dirt

You came from it,
And some day you’ll return to

Its that elm shade
Red roads clay you grew up on
That plowed up ground that your dad
Damned his luck on that post game party field
You circled up on
And when it rains you get stuck on
Drift a cloud back Behind county roads
That you run up
The mud on her jeans that she peeled off
And hung up
Her blue eyed summer time smile
Looks so good that it hurts
Makes you wanna build
A 10 percent down
White picket fence house on this dirt

Makes you wanna build
A 10 percent down
White picket fence house on this dirt

You came from it,
And some day you’ll return to it

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Florida Georgia Line's song "Dirt" depict how important the connection to the earth, the place where one grew up, and the memories and emotions tied to it can be. The dirt referred to is more than just soil; it represents the land, culture, and history of a place. The line "You get your hands in it, plant your roots in it" implies that the dirt, the memories, and the emotions are intertwined and become a part of who one is. The reference to the "corn field whiskey bonfires" and "post game party field" evoke nostalgia and a sense of community.

The chorus - "It's that elm shade, red road's clay you grew up on, that plowed up ground, that your dad damned his luck on, that post game party field you circled up on, and when it rains, you get stuck on" continues to emphasize the importance of this connection, and the emotions that come along with it. The reference to mud on her jeans and "her blue-eyed summertime smile" adds an element of romance and the idea of having a special someone to share these memories with. The last line "Makes you wanna build a 10 percent down white picket fence house on this dirt" conveys a desire to return to the place and create a permanent home.

Overall, the lyrics of "Dirt" by Florida Georgia Line convey a strong sense of nostalgia, longing, and attachment to one's roots.

I agree with many of the people on here (wishinifishin517, adam Kenigsberg ex..) this is a great song and for ppl who says its not "Country music" you couldn't be far from WRONG!! In my 34 years on this earth I've heard every type of country song there is and TWO things are deeply rooted in this type of music. 1.) IT tells a story... and this one does. who can't listen to this song and think about the land you grew up on and all the things that have happened while growing up there. playing in the sand, riding your bikes with friends, getting muddy when your out spinning tires in the grass - pissing your parents off... that's what this song represents. and 2.) It takes you back to that place. Like I said before , it takes you back to a place you grew up just take the lyrics

You get your hands in it, plant your roots in it
Dusty head lights dance with your boots in it
(Dirt, dirt, dirt...)
You write her name on it, spin your tires on it
Build your corn field, whiskey bonfires on it
(Dirt)
You bet your life on it
(Yeah)
It's that elm shade, red rust clay you grew up on
That plowed up ground that your dad damned his luck on
That postgame party field you circle up on
And when it rains you get stuck on
Drift a cloud back behind county roads that you run up
The mud on her jeans that she peeled off and hung up
Her blue eyed summertime smile looks so good that it hurts
Makes you wanna build a ten percent down white picket fence house on this dirt

This is one of my favorite songs by Florida Georgia line just because of the lyrics and the story it tells. Every song in country has its story whether its sad or happy, about heart ache or going out to drink to ease that pain or ... growing up in a place.. back in a time when everything was easier. and the memories are in the one place that can't be erased... the "Dirt"  :)
