Streten was discovered and signed by Future Classic in 2011, after submitting the tracks "Sleepless", "Over You" and "Paper Thin" in an original artists competition managed by the Australian record company. Nathan McLay, an employee of Future Classic and now Flume's manager, assisted with the release of his first EP titled Sleepless , which contained the three original tracks.

Flume's self-titled debut album was released on November 9, 2012 to exceptional critical acclaim. The album's production saw Flume collaborating with vocal artists George Maple, Moon Holiday, Jezzabell Doran, Chet Faker, and New York rapper T.Shirt. The album reached number one on the Australian iTunes charts. It debuted on the ARIA Albums Chart at number 2, behind One Direction's Take Me Home. In February 2013, it was announced exclusively on triple j that Flume would tour nationally around Australia for his first headlining tour, the "Infinity Prism Tour", in April and May 2013.

He returned with the track "Some Minds" which features vocals and lyrics from Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt in May 2015, followed by "Never Be like You" featuring Kai and "Smoke & Retribution" alongside Vince Staples and Kučka as an advance of second album "Skin". In April 2016, "Say It (feat. Tove Lo)" was released alongside the B-side "Wall Fuck".

6 years… and this track still fucks me up when I listen to it… in a good way. Seeing it at his concert, with the Reese bass slowly creeping in, people getting hyped the fuck up, and then Harley steps on his stage with his 2 tables on either side, the stage behind him starts spreading out and becoming a hall of arches and mirrors, everyone went absolutely crazy. Makes me tear up a little thinking about, I’d see him again in a heartbeat. Man I love being alive, especially in a time where we can experience the ecstasy that is flume.

I'm in a transitional phase of my life. One theme that keeps coming up for me is the idea of resetting. I had this song stuck in my head for days. I thought the only lyrics revolved around innocence / something broken. I listened to the song yesterday and had no idea AlunaGeorge says "begin again" and "start again" multiple times throughout. Fantastic way to look at life. You’re never locked into one path, it’s never too late to let go and begin again, whether that’s quitting your job and moving across the globe to start fresh, or changing the way you look because it never really reflected how you felt on the inside. I wanted to do somthing that had more of a progressive feel to it. Something that takes you on a journey,

For some random reason youtube recomended me this song in 2016, at the time i never have listened to this type of experimental song, not even artists related to flume to be honest. Thats the first song i ever heard that i didn't knew how the producer did the job. I Was shocked by how weird, and, at the same time, so perfect this song is. I remember listening to Skin every weekend for 1 and a half years without being saturated by the songs, i created a spotify in this same year [2016] and i just fav really good tracks that i find in my life-time. Today (5y later) i just have 400 tracks in my collection, and this is the only album with all the songs included there. Skin is really special for me.
