Flutlicht's first well-known track was the single “Icarus” (Drizzly Records) in 2001. It was followed in 2003 by "The Fall". Icarus was licensed for more than 150 compilations worldwide.

The lyrics of Flutlicht's "The Fall" tell the story of Icarus from the Greek mythology, who ignored his father's advice and flew too close to the sun with wings made of wax and feathers. Icarus' father had instructed him to fly at a moderate height, but the desire to reach new heights consumed Icarus and he drifted higher and higher. However, as he approached the sun, the heat melted the wax holding together the wings and Icarus plummeted to his death. The first line of the lyrics mention how Icarus left his guide, which typically represents his father, Daedalus. It was Daedalus who had built the wings in the first place and had warned Icarus not to fly too high.
The second line explains how Icarus' wings melted due to the heat from the sun. The lyrics use the phrase "scented wax" to illustrate how the wings were sweet smelling, which was a detail mentioned in the original Greek myth as well. The third and final line of the lyrics indicate how Icarus' body fell into the sea, which is how the ocean surrounding the island of Greece where he died came to be known as the Icarian Sea. There I was, back in 2005, standing on a weathered train station some time before 6AM in the dim light from a lonely lamp, light snow, waiting for the train headed for work. This blasting in the old battered Denon headphones in a brand new 1st gen iPod nano. Aaaah. I can almost feel the gentle embrace of the warm heavy coat again.. I loved this track for how rich the soundscape is without it being too much - still do.
