My Hero
Foo Fighters (HD) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Too alarmin' now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out?
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Kudos, my hero, leavin' all the best
You know my hero, the one that's on
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes

There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Foo Fighters' "My Hero" song are filled with emotion and admiration towards a person who is referred to as the hero. The song may seem like it's about a singular hero; however, it is really about the people who do extraordinary things in our daily lives. The song's opening line “Too alarmin' now to talk about, take your pictures down and shake it out” creates the sense of urgency, an atmosphere of chaos that leads to us needing heroes. We need people who will stand up for what is right, speak the truth, and be beacons of hope in these trying times. The verse "Don't the best of them bleed it out, while the rest of them peter out" reminds us that heroes are not invincible or superhuman, they are human beings like us, they bleed when pricked; however, they make sacrifices and push themselves even when others give up.

The chorus emphasizes that the hero is not a glamorous figure but rather, an ordinary person who consistently does the right thing. The repetition of the statement "There goes my hero, watch him as he goes" shows how people should observe and appreciate the unsung heroes in our society. The final lines of the song, "Kudos my hero, leaving all the best, you know my hero, the one that's next," pays tribute to our heroes for paving the way for the next generation.

My son and I was supposed to spend the summer learning this song. He was a drummer and I was a on guitar. My 12 year old son Tristan Van Lu passed away on 3/22/23. He was the best drummer I have ever met, he was my hero. I rocked this song out at his funeral, it was the last time I will ever touch a guitar again. Played until my fingers bled my boy!. I love you so much my son, my best friend I will never forget you and will never stop missing you my son....
