Lemontree
Fool's Garden Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm sittin' here in the boring room
It's just another rainy Sunday afternoon
I'm wasting my time
I got nothin' to do
I'm hangin' around
I'm waitin' for you
But nothing ever happens and I wonder
I'm drivin' around in my car
I'm drivin' too fast
I'm drivin' too far
I'd like to change my point of view
I feel so lonely
I'm waitin' for you
But nothing ever happens and I wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon tree
I'm turnin' my head up and down
I'm turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin' around
And all that I can see is just another lemon tree

Sing!
Dap-dadada-dadpm-didap-da
Dadada-dadpm-didap-da
Dap-didili-da

I'm sittin' here
I miss the power
I'd like to go out takin' a shower
But there's a heavy cloud inside my head
I feel so tired
Put myself into bed
Well, nothing ever happens and I wonder

Isolation is not good for me
Isolation, I don't want to sit on the lemon tree

I'm steppin' around in the desert of joy
Baby, anyhow I'll get another toy
And everything will happen and you wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see is just another lemon tree
I'm turnin' my head up and down
I'm turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin' around
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon tree
And I wonder, wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see
And all that I can see

And all that I can see
Is just a yellow lemon tree

Overall Meaning

The songwriter is portraying the feeling of isolation and boredom in the verses. The character is sitting alone in a mundane room on a dreary day with no purpose or motivation. The car ride the character embarks on is an attempt to escape the mundane reality that they find themselves in. They seek a change in perspective and experience; to feel less lonely. While they wait for something exciting to happen, they are met with disappointment after disappointment, leading them to question their existence and what the future holds.

In the chorus, the songwriter underscores the limitation of the character's surroundings. The character is fixated on the lemon tree in their view, which symbolizes lack of diversity and a limited range of experiences. The yellow lemon tree is a stark contrast to the vibrant blue sky; the former being the only thing the character can see, while the latter was described to them by someone else. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and a longing for something more substantial.

Overall, the song touches on themes of monotony, loneliness, and a desire for change. It highlights the difficulty in finding motivation and inspiration when one's surroundings seem unchanging and limiting.

In fifth grade, I had an amazing English teacher. She taught in a completely different way: with humor, with honesty, with love. She could give an entire lesson to prepare for a test, she could hand out candy just in the middle of the lesson.
I did my homework for her lessons with pleasure, no matter how difficult it was. Although with her, "difficult" only meant "interesting".
And most importantly, we learned songs. Without translation, in English, and then they performed at school concerts. I still remember the words "lemon tree", it was the first time I I still remember the words to "lemon tree", it was the first song I learned.
She died of breast cancer in the summer of my Sixth Grade
