Tell Me Who I Am

And it's a sign so white of colour.
The more I watch, the more it turns around
And it's painting yellow circles down on the floor.
Go!
Time is up and the sky is down.
Where's the only way I know?
There's nothing else below.
Why don't you take it away?
Why don't you take it away?
Why don't you take it away with all its pain?
Why don't you take your spell away?
Tell me who I am,
Tell me where I go.
My brain begins to swim
But I don't know.
Tell me who I am,
Tell me where I go.
I don't know - oh I don't know,
But I don't know.
No illusion, no discovering,
Nothing left at all,
No protection, no assurance.
I stumbled, now I fall.
Why don't you take it away?
Why don't you take it away?
Why don't you take it away with all its pain?
Why don't you take your spell away?
Tell me who I am,
Tell me where I go.
My brain begins to swim
But I don't know.
Tell me who I am,
Tell me where I go.
I don't know - oh I don't know.
Tell me who I am,
Tell me where I go.
My brain begins to swim
But I don't know.
Tell me who I am,
Tell me where I go.
I don't know - oh I don't know,
I don't know!
The song "Tell Me Who I Am" by Fool's Garden expresses confusion and uncertainty as the singer tries to understand their own identity and purpose. The opening lines of the song describe a sign on the wall that is turning and painting circles on the floor, possibly representing the dizzying and disorienting sensation of feeling lost and directionless. The lines "Time is up and the sky is down. Where's the only way I know?" suggest a feeling of time running out and a desperate search for some kind of grounding or stability.
The repeated refrain "Tell me who I am, tell me where I go. My brain begins to swim but I don't know" captures the essence of the song's theme, as the singer pleads for guidance and understanding from whoever or whatever can provide it. They feel like they are swimming in confusion and ignorance, and are in need of a lifeline to make sense of their existence.
Overall, the song is about the universal human experience of searching for meaning and identity in a confusing and ever-changing world. It speaks to the importance of finding a sense of purpose and belonging, and the struggle that comes with that search.
