Millenium
For The Love Of Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ingest disease from filth to failure. Cancerous breathing the name in vain.
Through a dark embrace words beckon your cadaverous savior. Kiss his deadened flesh, feel betrayal flow through his veins.
Reconstruct from ages past. Affliction upon the soul.
Ascend to the cross, adorn with his blood, taste it sweetly upon your lips.
Exhale the sins of forever as the savior hangs in shame. Grin. Loathe this cherished son.
Bask.
Rise.
Bathe in his pain of swallowed faith. Dead. All martyrs wrench.
Eternalize the pain, glorify the graves littered with remains of your lost righteousness

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of “Millennium” by For The Love Of open with a very bleak and disturbing image of a person who has allowed themselves to be consumed by disease, filth, and failure. The phrase “ingest disease” conjures up images of someone consuming something vile and unpleasant, almost like a form of self-harm. The next line, “cancerous breathing the name in vain,” takes this idea even further. The person in question seems to be intentionally harming themselves by invoking some sort of evil entity or force. The words “in vain” suggest that they know what they’re doing is futile, but they do it anyway, perhaps as a form of rebellion against society or some other authority.

The next stanza takes an even darker turn. The person is beckoned by “words” to embrace their “cadaverous savior.” This could be interpreted in a number of ways, but it seems to suggest some sort of necrophilia or worship of death. The line “feel betrayal flow through his veins” suggests that this savior figure is not benevolent, but rather cruel and treacherous. Despite this, the person kisses his “deadened flesh” and tastes his “blood,” seemingly reveling in the pain and suffering they experience.

As the song progresses, the imagery becomes even more grotesque and disturbing. The person is instructed to “ascend to the cross” and “adorn with his blood” before exhaling their sins “as the savior hangs in shame.” The final lines of the song suggest that the person is reveling in the pain and suffering of others, “bathing” in their “pain of swallowed faith.” The phrase “eternalize the pain, glorify the graves littered with remains of your lost righteousness” seems to suggest that the person is actively seeking out their own destruction, as if they believe that this is the only way to achieve some sort of transcendence or enlightenment.
