I had the Hong Kong Flu in 1968 when I was 13. I can honestly say that is the one and only time I’ve had FLU. Attention time, I couldn’t have cared less if I lived or died! Off school a full 3 weeks and weak for a longtime after. Flu is definitely NOT like a common cold!

I caught full blown influenza about 3 years ago and it was the worst experience of my life, at first it hit me like a “normal” flu headache, sore throat, runny nose, cough after about a week I thought I was getting better but then it came back with a vengeance. I had high temperature, severe muscle fatigue, cold chills, difficulty breathing and pretty much every other symptom that comes along with being sick it got to the point where the only way I could breathe normally was if I went in the shower and made it very steamy I think the moisture helped clear my lungs but it only lasted temporarily. It took me all up 3 weeks to start getting better. Since then I’ve had the occasional short bouts of runny nose and cough and even caught covid but nothing came close to what I experienced a few years ago.

My bro in law just came home from work one day with a cold and got the whole household sick with some kinda phlegm cold. My symptoms were a lot post nasal drip or a bit of chest congestion not really sure, headache and tiredness. I think cold viruses are mutating at a higher rate than we anticipated since I usually don't ever get sick as I'm a very healthy individual who weight trains and drink lots and lots of water, my eating can improve a bit but yeah that's just my two sense on that matter.

The longest streak of not getting sick was from May 2017-February 2022.

Now since February 2022 till now April 2023 I never caught a cold/flu. But the past couple days I’ve been dealing with runny/stuffy nose, post nasal drip, head pressure from blowing my nose too much and I’ve been sneezing like crazy. Ugh. I will be more careful. My little brother got sick n passed it to me :(

I had the H1N1 flu when I was 2 years old and had to be hospitalised for like a week (I had asthma and it made it even worse) and I believe I had to be on Oxygen and have a nebuliser. My whole family got it too, but thankfully I was the only one that had to be in the hospital. Literally one of my first memories is being in the car on the way to the hospital and coughing so much I literally couldn’t breath and was choking. My parents said it was horrible, no wonder it was my first memory!

About a year ago I had a very bad flu. If I ate something I would just vomit it out in a minute. I had the worst stomach and headache with a fever. There were cramps in my body everywhere. It only lasted about 2 days though. I can't image 2 weeks like that. I guess my immune system is strong and fought it quickly. 💪💪

My grandpa's always sneezed in a cloth hankie. Grandma's nails were short and clean with her hair up away from face. No shoes inside the house. There were things called slippers. We washed our hands when entering the house and before meals. There were many family members living in much smaller spaces in their time and so hygiene was important.

Started university last week, got the ‘freshers flu’ in freshers week (the week where everyone gets ratarsed and goes clubbing for 7 days on the trot). It was inevitable but it’s horrible and I can’t rest because my lectures begin and missing the first few lectures of my mechanical engineering course would leave me in a pretty bad spot, so I’m having to go into these lectures where I’m having coughing fits and barely being able to concentrate at all lol it’s not a great situation

Actually you can cure it really fast. I used to be a heavy drinker and for about 10-years I never once got sick. I worked in an office environment real close to others as well. Benefits: instead of 2 weeks of school vacation I have 3. But 1 out of the 3 is in bed probably .

But to tell a flu from a cold, flu is way worse than cold. If you feel so achy and can't move or it hurts to move, it's probably flu. If you just have a sore throat and/or stuffy/runny nose and you are still functional enough to move and it doesn't hurt, it's probably a cold.

I'm the kind of a guy who doesn't get sick often. To be honest it's hard to remember the last time maybe 5-6 years ago. Past 3 days I feel like crap nose running like a broken tap coughing muscle pain headache weakness last night had 38c temperature. Did a covid test and negative. This morning did drink 300 ml dark rum with orange juice and ogh my God. Better than any flu medecine. Suddenly my nose is dry and I can breathe and I feel fantastic. I do not recommend, but I am surprised how much it did help. Please drink chamomile tea and linden flower tea as well ;)

Mk Mnll Lol yes! 24 billion lost to cold and flu each year!!!! Omg 😱 the horror of that number! Meanwhile their writing up legislation right now to spend trillions of dollars to combat covid-19. Look who’s learning a very valuable lesson!
I really hope gone are the days of working through sickness and looking down on people who take sick days off as a weakness.
If nothing else, I hope this changes the worlds view on how to stay healthier, encourage good hygiene and etiquette when your sick.

I caught a cold at my sister's hockey tournament😷😷😷 I've been staying home and spraying microban on everything I touch and wearing a mask whenever a fam member comes to drop off something for me👍🏾 better to be safe than sorry right (I also made my cat isolate with me cuz I touched her while sick lol and she's been inseparable from me🥺😷😷😷)

If I do on a rare occasion for an itch it’s with my shirt sleeve.. I also wash my hands very often and I hardly get sick

I had the flu vaccine in December (3weeks) ago and still ended up with the flu and cold. This cough has become nasty and nagging with wheezing. I don't know what might be the problem.

I gave my hole city this flu and I feel horrible about it . I was trying so hard to wash my hands and not touch my face not touch anyone else but it didn’t work so now my whole city has it...😢

I felt my throat starting to itch a bit a couple days ago so i went and got menthol halls at lunch, the next day i went and got Vick’s DayQuil liquiCaps and took two dosages for work and was fine. So i woke up this morning with severe symptoms of all the above!!! So it’s true i guess when you take the medicine it will make it worse for yourself! SMH i can’t take this pain! I gotta stay DayQuil up! Plus i gotta work unfortunately on a Sunday!

When i had covid I felt a lil bit drowsy (of course I didn't feel anything bad since i had the vaccines) but like I had the vaccine for the flu and MF hit me harder then a truck.

You didn't mention tamiflu (oseltamivir) which is an anti viral for prevention and reduction of sick days if given early on course of flu

I gargle listerine as soon as I feel the tickle in the throat. Call me crazy but it does work ! I do it two to three times a day. If anything it takes away much of the pain and discomfort when swallowing.

Every year in October I get that flu and I don’t why. I came to the point where I sometimes tell myself ( oh yea the flue is late this year.) but mf got me this year at the wrong time and I have a date tomorrow.

Hahaha funny this was recommended to me a year later while I have a cold during a coronavirus outbreak. Snooty running mess with sputum cough. No fever headache or aches and fatigue. Just a cold like every winter. But I cough now and everyone dives like a grenade has gone off. Lol work has shelved me as to not freak anyone out.

Not only that I don’t just take the flu shot for myself. I take the flu shot for my mom my grandparents had anyone else I’m around who has weak immune system hence why I also take my Covid vaccine for the same purpose and reason.
