The Apartment
Foreign Air Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I had my suspicions and you had your own
A thousand dirty dishes and a broken home
Back when we started, before the apartment, hey now
I know you won't admit it but you had to know
I know it's hard to quit, hard to let it go
As hard as we've fallen, gonna hit the floor
Lay down, lay down
I know, things will get harder
I know, I've lost my manners
If so, like it or not I speak from the heart

Yeah, you see I forgot how to hold your hand
Forgot how to be your man
Hope that you understand me when I say
I needed to be alone
Needed some time to grow
This will be better for us both

I know the feeling and it hasn't caught you by surprise
I've heard it from your friends a million times
Mothers to daughters, fathers to sons
Lay down, lay down
Won't let it get the best of me
No, I don't need no sympathy
I've got to move now, yeah
Move out, move out

I know, things will get harder
I know, I've lost my manners
If so, like it or not I speak from the heart

Yeah, you see I forgot how to hold your hand
Forgot how to be your man
Hope that you understand me when I say
I needed to be alone

Needed some time to grow
This will be better for us both

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Foreign Air's song The Apartment takes the listener on a journey of a relationship that has come to an end. The opening line of the song, "I had my suspicions and you had your own," introduces the theme of the lyrics, which is mistrust. The chorus "I know, things will get harder, I know, I've lost my manners, If so, like it or not I speak from the heart" conveys the singer's realization that the relationship is coming to an end and that it will be challenging. The singer acknowledges that the relationship has been broken for some time, as evidenced by the line "A thousand dirty dishes and a broken home," indicating that their relationship had some underlying problems that they both ignored.

The singer then expresses their need for space and time to develop independently through the lines "I needed to be alone, Needed some time to grow, This will be better for us both." The singer recognizes that this separation will improve the relationship and give both parties a chance to become better individuals. The lyrics convey a sense of self-awareness and maturity, as the singer understands the importance of self-discovery.

In conclusion, Foreign Air's The Apartment is a song about the end of a relationship, acknowledging the underlying problems, and taking steps to move on while acknowledging the challenges of doing so. I'm here to express how memorable this video clip is.

Right when Instagram started advertising this song I became obsessed with it. I listened to it a lot during the pandemic that time(august 2020).
But somehow I forgot about it and only remembered a year later (October 2021).
I searched for it in my playlists and in the liked videos and didn't find it, but I was hopeful to one day be able to watch the clip again.
I couldn't remember any lyrics or melody, the only things that kept on my mind about it were:
-The turquoise background
-The cereal bowl
-The part where he smashes the banana
-The mustard yellow cap
-The part where he starts to disintegrate

And after a long journey searching on my YouTube's history I redescovered this amazing song.

Please if you're reading this comment, like it or reply to it so I don't lose this song again. Thanks🙃

Forgot how to be your man
You've made ruins inside me, damn
To beside you now and then
Got tired, have to rest again

You don't understand me baby
All you wanted is caring
I become alone inside for
Be the only one, you've been looking for

Don't try to chase me, never
Your fever gonna disappear
I want us more, you've made it fewer
I wanted us to be, be forever!
