Blue Morning
Foreigner Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Out in the street it's 6 am, another sleepless night
Three cups of coffee, but I can't clear my head from what went down last night
No we won't have our own little ways, but somehow we keep it together
You hear me talk, but you don't hear what I say, I guess it don't even matter
Blue morning, blue day, won't you see things my way?
Blue morning, can't you see what your love has done to me?
I've always listened to your point of view, my ways are cut through men
And I've always been a patient man, but my patience has reached its end
You tell me you're leaving, you tell me goodbye
You say you might send a letter
Well honey don't telephone, cause I won't be alone
I need someone to make me feel better

Blue morning, blue day, won't you see things my way?
Blue morning, can't you see what your love has done to me?
Blue morning, blue day, won't you see things my way?
Blue morning, can't you see what your love has done to me?
Blue morning, blue morning
Blue morning, blue morning

Blue morning, blue morning
Blue, blue, blue day, yeah

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Foreigner’s song “Blue Morning Blue Day” paint a picture of insomnia and the aftermath of a difficult night. The singer is wide awake at 6am, after another sleepless night. Despite three cups of coffee, they can’t shake the events of the previous night from their head. The following lines suggest that the relationship between the singer and their partner is strained. The two of them do not have their “own little ways”, meaning they likely have differences or disagreements. Despite this, “somehow we keep it together”. The singer acknowledges that their partner hears them talk, but doesn’t truly understand what they are saying. The repetitive chorus of “Blue morning, blue day, won't you see things my way?” seems to reflect the singer’s desire for their partner to empathize with them and see their point of view.

As the song progresses, the singer describes their own frustration with being patient and listening to their partner’s point of view. Despite their efforts, their patience has reached its limit. In the final verse, the singer’s partner tells them they are leaving and may send a letter. The singer pleads for them not to call, as they need someone to make them feel better. The final chorus remains the same, with the repeated phrase, “Blue morning, can't you see what your love has done to me?”

Overall, “Blue Morning Blue Day” is a song about a relationship at a breaking point. The singer is struggling to communicate their thoughts and feelings to their partner, and is ultimately left feeling hurt and alone. The melancholy tone of the song, combined with the simple yet catchy melody, make it a classic example of Foreigner’s signature sound.

Foreigner definitely deserves the honor of the Rock n Roll hall of fame

@garycrabb9805

Absolutely!!!!!

@juliereminiec4937

so do Styx, Journey, REO Speedwagon& ChepTrick

@garycrabb9805

@@juliereminiec4937 Journey made it in 2017 and Cheap Trick made it in 2016. Both should have been inducted at least 15 years earlier!!! REO Speedwagon and Styx haven't though. They also should have been inducted at least 20 years ago! They really need to make a real Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This one is a complete joke! I could name about 100 artist/bands that have been left out! These Rap artist and the likes of the Velvet Underground with ZERO hits should never have made it!
