Dirty White Boy
Foreigner Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey baby, if you're falling down, I know what's good for you all day
Are you worried what your friends see
And will it ruin your reputation loving me?
'Cause I'm a dirty white boy, yeah a dirty white boy, a dirty white boy
Don't drive no big black car, don't like no Hollywood movie stars
You want me to be true to you, you don't give a damn what I do to you
I'm just a dirty white boy (dirty white boy) dirty white boy (dirty white boy)
Dirty white boy, dirty white boy
Well I'm a dirty white boy, (dirty white boy), dirty white boy, yeah dirty white boy
A dirty white boy
I've been in trouble since I don't know when
I'm in trouble now and I know somehow I'll find trouble again
I'm a loner but I'm never alone
Every night I get one step closer to the danger zone
'Cause I'm a dirty white boy, (dirty white boy) yeah dirty white boy (dirty white boy)
I'm a dirty white boy, dirty white boy
Come on come on boy, (dirty white boy) white boy (dirty white boy)
I'm a dirty white boy, dirty white boy

Hey I'm a dirty white boy (dirty white boy) yeah I'm a dirty white boy
(Dirty white boy) dirty white boy yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Foreigner's song Dirty White Boy paint a picture of a rebellious and dangerous man who knows he is not what society considers respectable. In the first verse, the singer addresses a woman who seems hesitant to be with him because of what her friends might think. He assures her that if she's falling down and needs someone who knows what's good for her, he's the one to trust. He then goes on to describe himself as a dirty white boy who doesn't drive fancy cars, doesn't care for Hollywood stars, and doesn't have any interest in being anyone's poster boy for respectability. The chorus reinforces his self-image as a "dirty white boy" who doesn't live up to society's expectations of how he should behave.

In the second verse, the singer acknowledges that he's been in trouble before and expects to find trouble again. Despite this, he's a loner who's comfortable being on his own but still always moving closer to the danger zone. The chorus repeats, emphasizing again the singer's self-identification as a "dirty white boy" who doesn't fit in with what society expects of him. The outro reinforces this image one last time before the song ends.

Overall, the lyrics to Dirty White Boy present a picture of a man who doesn't care about what others think of him and embraces his rebelliousness and outsider status. While the woman he's addressing seems hesitant to be with him because of her friends' opinions, he's confident in who he is and what he represents.

Rsd338 …. We may have been joking BUT Foreigner was on fire
from 1978 to 84. 1978 – 1983 – The Rolling Stones were at their woeful best as
my belief is that anyone can produce a great studio album. Proof is the Stones
Some Girls and Tattoo You. These two albums sold over 10 million copies.
However, the Stones live performances were shit; I own their 1978n embarrassment
– Some Girls DVD – where they play live in Texas. Check it out on YouTube, they
are beyond woeful.

Led Zeppelin had imploded as they produced one album - in through the out Door -
which apart from 2 songs was also poor but not as bad as the Stones. The
Eagles, Fleetwood Mac were selling like hot cakes but producing easy listening
crapola. Aerosmith were great but only big in North America. This is why KISS
ruled the rock world from 1977 to early 78 when they to imploded. Apart from
KISS it was ABBA who ruled world-wide.
I am biased. The BEST band in my view was
Rainbow headed by the enigmatic Ritchie Blackmore with amazing vocals from
Ronnie James Dio. However, Rainbow could not crack the US market with their
brilliant album Rainbow Rising barely cracking the US top 50. Rainbow in the
short 8 years sold 28 million albums world-wide BUT only 4 million in the US.
. Foreigner smashed ALL their competitors
except for AC/DC who released their massive Back in Black in 1980-81. I am an
Aussie but I prefer Foreigner to AC/DC. Foreigner’s massive “4” album who sold well (7 million
copies in the US alone and more than 10 million ) had more variety and depth on
it than
