Sea To Land
Forest City Lovers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the dark we have no bodies
we have no worries
we have no limbs
Faceless secretes, that we embody
no need to worry about spilled milk

Oh come away now
Lets get you save now.
Lets get you save now
Oh come away.

In the dark callous footsteps
Tread thin waters sea to land
Empty head known to progression
Or the suggestion of an outstretched hand

Oh come away now
Lets get you save now.
Lets get you save now, oh come away.

Oh come away now

Lets get you save now.
Lets get you save now, oh come away.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Sea to Land" by Forest City Lovers paint a picture of a world without physical bodies, worries or limbs. The darkness hides faceless secrets that the singer embodies, and there is no need to worry about spilled milk. The first verse presents a surreal and ethereal world where existence seems to be light and free, free to escape from material concerns. The second verse introduces a contrast to this world, with callous footsteps treading on thin waters from sea to land. The implication is that there is danger lurking in the world beyond the dark, ethereal world that the singer inhabits. However, the singer is not moved by the world, nor is the singer interested in developing or extending their consciousness.

The refrain of "Oh come away now, let's get you save now" is repeated throughout the song. It's a plea to escape the harsh, tangible world that is present in the second verse. It's a call to find a safe haven away from the emotional constraints of a world that can sometimes feel harsh, empty, and hopeless. The lyrics themselves create a sense of separation, between the dark world that is the sanctuary of the singer, and the bright and stark world that is full of chaos and unpredictability.

Overall, the song creates an almost utopian vision of a better place to be. Through the lens of the lyrics, the dark world seems like a refuge from the pain and suffering that the singer has experienced. It's an escapist fantasy that hints at a longing for a better world, free from the burden of living.

This is so lovely. One of my favorite Forest City Lovers songs

I love this song! Just heard it on United States of Tara and had to hunt it down.

This outdoors acoustic idea only works for bands with vocalists who can project their voices well. This song just sounds like the volume is down too low, and there's nothing the viewer can do to fix it. It makes for a poor introduction to a lot of bands, discouraging me from seeking out their other work.
