In the beginning of 1998 Johan Svensson showed interest in the band and joined on guitar/bass. This new line-up didn’t last long since we had different aims and after some months Forest of Shadows was once again a one-man band. After Johan’s departure I started to redo the recordings of the old songs and in may 1998 the same four songs were released on the first real demo, titled “The Silent Cry”. During the release of the demo I got in contact with a friend of a friend, Micce Andersson, who found my band interesting and wanted to help me out. Almost instantly we wrote the opening riff of “Eternal Autumn” and started discussing some old songs to re-record.
In the beginning of 1999 we contacted Katatonia and asked them if we could do a cover of their masterpiece “Rainroom”. They approved and we recorded the song as well as a new version of “The Silent Cry”. In may 1999, a year after the release of the first demo, we released a promo called “promotion-cd 1999” which featured these two song. The intention of the promo was to show our new direction and sound which was a success since we recieved good critics from both friends and zines. We were really satisfied with what we had accomplished and ready to take it all a step further.

November Dream
Forest of Shadows Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Swept in thorns and songs of farewell
I felt an echo of a glorious time
Gently whispering my name
As if knowing of my demise
As if guiding me away
From the torments of my loss
Towards that which i seek
And so i followed and arrived
At the shore of a silent lake
Where i beheld a starlit silhouette
Of somehow familiar features
It was her, my love and life
Staring into the night
And awaiting my advent
I called out her name
And she unfolded her funeral face
With eyes of radiant sorrow
That pierced my blissfull stare
A moment of joy turned to dust
As she spoke her final sigh
And left me shattered and alone
Amidst a forest of shadows
Swept in thorns and songs of farewell
The song "November Dream" by Forest of Shadows paints a picture of a person lost in a forest of shadows. The singer describes being caught in thorns and hearing songs of farewell. However, amidst the darkness, the singer feels an echo of a glorious time, a time of happiness and love. It whispers the singer's name and guides them through the forest, away from the torment of their loss and towards the possibility of one final glimpse of their love's smile.
The singer follows the echo and finds themselves at the shore of a silent lake. There they behold a starlit silhouette of familiar features, their love and life. As they call out their lover's name, she unfolds her funeral face with eyes of radiant sorrow and speaks her final sigh. The moment of joy shatters, and the singer is left alone amidst the forest of shadows, swept in thorns and songs of farewell.
The song evokes feelings of sadness and longing, but also of hope and love. It speaks to the pain of loss and the hope of finding solace in the memories of what once was. The forest of shadows represents the darkness and uncertainty of loss, but the echo of a glorious time represents the possibility of something better.

Funeral. They have had a wide range of styles over their career, I think outta the full releases this is most comparable to From These Wounds. The song This Barren Skin is a masterpiece.
