A Hundred-Year Minute-Long intermission
Forgive Durden Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Untie your mind
Let your bloated brain
Balloon and float away
(Float away)
Wet the end of the thread
Thimble upon your indexFeed the line through inside
Draw it from the either side
Pull the strand to satisfy
The need to compose
This entire naive glow
Set the needle on its path
(Set the needle)
Bobbing up and down and past
Tears and seams all turned to one
(Turned to one)
Every stitch and each spool spun
The lyrics to Forgive Durden's "A Hundred-Year Minute-Long Intermission" invoke a sense of release and freedom. The opening lines invite the listener to place their hand in the singer's, untethering their mind and letting their thoughts float away. The image of a "bloated brain" suggests a sense of suffocation or overthinking, and the act of letting the brain balloon and float away implies a release from these burdens.
The subsequent lines of the song suggest a more tactile form of escape, as the singer instructs the listener to wet the end of a thread and draw it through a needle. The act of sewing, which is referenced in lines like "every stitch and each spool spun," can be seen as a meditative and calming activity. This sense of meditative release may also be invoked in the latter part of the song, which describes the act of stitching as a way to turn "tears and seams" into a unified whole.
Overall, the lyrics to "A Hundred-Year Minute-Long Intermission" seem to speak to a desire for release from the burdens of the mind and the world, and an embrace of simple, calming activities that can help one find peace.
