One of the things I love and look for in people is individuality and being unique. I am a trainee primary school teacher and this time next year I will be qualified - in my class the majority already look like teachers.....I'm a goth/alternative girl and I stand out like a sore thumb. But! I have never felt more like myself than I have ever done in the past - I have had guest lecturers ask me if I am in the wrong room or in the wrong lecture, I've had other students being genuinely shocked when I tell them I'm going to be a teacher - but my reply is always - being like this will make me a better teacher, it will help me show the children that it is ok to be different, to stand out from the crowd and to just be yourself. That is what makes the world a better place, great journal topic! 😊

I think though most people stop trying to be the same after their mid teens and want to be unique and original, there is still pressure to be different in a "good way". Love the journal topic idea.

Love this topic! Your journal topic videos actually made me start WANTING to journal! I started doing it every week, but now I actually journal just about every day (: so thank you Kati, for helping me stay motivated to a healthy way to release emotions!

Oh! and something that I used to think I was 'different' for was being in my school choir, I thought everyone would judge me but it turns out some of the greatest people I've met (so far anyways, still only 16) were from the music program! (:

I think I've spent a lot of my life doing the opposite, trying to stand out. In grad school we've been doing some assignments that are looking back on our development and I'm realizing that most of my life I was totally ignored, to the point of neglect. So I've tried really hard to stand out in various ways, to get my voice heard. I'm learning to find a healthy balance now.

I've done the same. In 11th gr the girls ganged up on me & asked me if I had worn those same jeans the day before. Devastated I hung with the skaters after that. Still a rebel at 42.

Something unique about me is a rose tattoo on my hand which I wasn't sure about after! I'm learning to love it like I'm learning to love me. I know with me I always care for others so much and at work. I got an award for customer service this week:) that's what I'm fantastic at.

Hi Katie. First time commenting on your channel. 1 thing that my cptsd pointed out to me last week was that I have a keen sense about me. I noticed how she took a break during a question I asked her & I noticed her body & eye movement shift. She told me I was the first to ever notice something like that. She also told me in so many words it might be a cool thing to do one of these days meaning be a counselor. She's the beyond anybody I've ever had before. I'm walking through the storm this time instead of numbing it.Would love more videos on BPD & how to explain it to a hubby or 10yo.Thanks Katie! You rock!!

If nothing else, keeping a journal, 'structured' or not, can be a place to vent feelings, or raise ideas. I have kept a daily journal for over 40 (!!) years, only taking 6 months off last year. ( I was reading in the past, and, well, the past wasn't so great.) But even reading a page here and there gave me some perspective that I might not have gotten any other way. Peace.

I can't find anything that I like about myself right now. I've just had a terrible experience with a host family in Italy. They didn't like me or understand me and wanted me to leave after only 4 days and wasn't willing to give me a chance to settle in. It has seriously knocked my confidence. I finished uni a few months ago and I'm dreading my graduation in January as I've achieved nothing since. I hate my accent and how awkward and shy I am around new people. I don't know what I'm doing with my life any more.

Something different about me, I'm a survivor of 3 things..... Growing up w 2 narcissistic parents, a breast ca diagnosis... I have tummy for boobs & a scar hip to hip thanks t the brca 2 gene & I survived a PE 3 wks after my 18hr surgery. All this 6mo after moving at 36yo. I'm also struggling & have 90Days sobriety yesterday. Not a good week so thanks for letting me share everybody & Katie

+Siobhan D Personally, I live a very hectic life and can barely remember to keep my head on some days. What helps me is to keep a calendar on my computer to fill in a little bit of info every day, and occasionally I write in the two journals I still have for when I am really thinking through something. It's kind of like reverse scheduling, because I look back on my day and see what happened. It makes it a lot easier to look at things on a wide scale, as well.
