Sleepwalk
Forrest Day Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Bad thoughts give me bad dreams
Then my bad dreams let me get up and walk
Bad thoughts give me bad dreams
Then my bad dreams make me sleepwalk)
It scares the hell out of anyone around
The sounds are near
My sister locked her door one time
Until the coast was clear I wake, try to remember it
Grab a glass from the cabinet Close my eyes,
Subconscious trapping it now Try to pry it open
I wake, try to remember it
Grab a glass from the cabinet Close
My eyes, subconscious trapping it now
Try to pry it open
Then it becomes, it becomes, it becomes a problem Then it becomes,
It becomes, it becomes a problem Then it becomes a problem,
Then it becomes a problem Then it
Becomes, it becomes, it becomes a problem
(Bad thoughts give me bad dreams
Then my bad dreams let me get up and walk
Random thoughts give me bad dreams
Then my bad dreams make me sleepwalk)
Evening, this voice comes across the room
I'm standing on my knees I'm panting, breathing heavily
There's rugburns burning me I wake, try to remember it
Grab a glass from the cabinet Close
My eyes, subconscious trapping it now
Try to pry it open I wake, try to remember it
Grab a glass from the cabinet Close
My eyes, subconscious trapping it now
Try to pry it open Then it becomes, it becomes,
It becomes a problem Then it becomes, it becomes,
It becomes a problem Then it becomes a problem,

Then it becomes a problem Then it
Becomes, it becomes, it becomes a problem

Overall Meaning

Forrest Day's song Sleepwalk portrays a disturbing image of the singer's subconscious mind taking over his body while he sleepwalks. The lyrics take the listener through the singer's journey of experiencing bad dreams that cause him to sleepwalk, leading to panic and confusion around him. The lyrics suggest that these bad thoughts and dreams are taking a toll on his mental health and causing him to act out his subconscious mind's desires. The sleepwalking seems to be a symbol of something deeper happening within his mind that is beyond his control.

The first time the singer sleepwalks, it is so frightening that his sister locks her door until she feels safe. The sounds are near, and it scares everyone around him. The lyrics also imply that the singer tries to keep his subconscious mind under control as he consciously tries to remember what happened in his sleepwalking episodes, grabbing a glass from the cabinet, and closing his eyes to pry it open. Despite his efforts, he struggles to control his sleepwalking, which then becomes a problem.

The song's overall message suggests that our inner thoughts and subconscious mind can control us to some extent, no matter how much we try to resist them. Forrest Day's Sleepwalk is a powerful reminder that we should be aware of our mental state and seek help if we experience any negative thoughts, dreams, or habits that may impact our mental health.

My theory is that this guy is lucid dreaming so often that the line between dreams and reality are getting muddled. Every time he goes to sleep, he believes he is actually living those dreams, calling himself a "sleepwalker" because the dreams are so vivid they feel like they are actually happening to him while he sleeps.

@arsaainsworth3641

So what the song is about (his words btw) is for years hes experienced night terrors and the night terrors would also cause him to sleep walk. There are different versions of the song that represent different night terrors hes had.
