Class Of '99
Fort Hope Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hope is like a photograph
We fold up the corners of the
Pages that still make enough hold
Onto everything that keeps you young
So what if the rain comes? Let it
Wash off the waves of the old worry
Just forget it
Come cope, if there's any more dreams to come

Don't, don't be scared
If you're scared let it bring you home
Let it take you there from the get-go

You're afraid to let go of it
I've seen that on pictures
Used to fold it in your pocket called love
If there's always one train to come
So where did I find it if it's morning?
Did I dress so far from your calling?
You're so big telling with the warning
Then what's to hope?
I hear your voice but now I'm falling

We are not alone we are not alone
We are not alone from the get-go

Don't, don't be scared
If you're scared let it bring you home
Let it take you there from the get-go

We are not alone we are not alone

We are not alone we are not alone
From the get-go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Fort Hope's song "Class Of '99" convey a message of hope and the passage of time. The opening line, "Hope is like a photograph," suggests that hope is a cherished memory that we hold onto, just as we would hold onto a photograph. Folding up the corners of the pages that contain these memories reflects our desire to preserve and protect the moments that bring us joy and keep us feeling young. The rain symbolizes the obstacles and worries that come our way, but the lyrics encourage us to let them wash away and embrace the dreams that are still to come.

The second verse delves into the fear of letting go and the conflicting emotions of love and uncertainty. The mention of a train suggests that there is always an opportunity or chance waiting for us, yet the lyrics question where this chance can be found if it's already morning. The singer wonders if they have strayed too far from the person's calling or purpose, alluding to a sense of doubt. The warning from this person, who is described as "so big telling," adds to the confusion and uncertainty. The final lines convey a sense of falling or losing one's grip on hope, despite hearing the person's voice.

Overall, the song encourages the listener not to be scared and to let fear guide them home, allowing it to take them to a place of comfort and security. It emphasizes that we are not alone in our struggles and that hope is present from the very beginning.

One of the best songs i've ever heard in my life. And i don't even a fan of the band! Some magic was captured in the studio that day. Lyrics seem to tap some deep rooted pain and even religious feelings (i don't have any but feeling it when i'm listening to this).
