So how do we know we're doing it right this time?
We've done things wrong before
So how do we know we're doing it right?
One small word and all is lost,
We have to start again
You're led
Do you believe that it's not worth listening? And I don't know,
No I don't know all the answers
No I don't know But we've done things wrong before
So how do we know we're doing it right this time?
You light the fire that fuses burn
You can't stop it now
It's out of control,
Control
You push the cart, the wheels will roll,
Come tumbling down,
It's out of control, control.
It's not like we need a miracle,
Just a sense of what is right.
Don't ask me why,
We've done things wrong before,
So how do we know we're doing it right this time,
We've done things wrong before,
So how do we know we're doing it right
This time?
We've done things wrong before
So how do we know we're doing it right this time?
We've done things wrong before
So how do we know we're doing it right?
One small word and all is lost,
We have to start again
You're led Do you believe that it's not worth listening?

No I don't know all the answers
No I don't know But we've done things wrong before

We've done things wrong before
So how do we know we're doing it right,
this time?
You light the fire, the fuses burn
You can't stop it now
It's out of control
Control, yeah
You push the cart, the wheels will roll
Come tumbling down
It's out of control, control.
You break the dam, the water flows
You can't stop us now
It's out of control, control
You say the words they long to hear
You can't take it back
You're out of control
Control
The song is about recognizing past mistakes and questioning whether or not one is capable of making the right choices in the present. The repetition of the line "We've done things wrong before / So how do we know we're doing it right this time?" emphasizes this theme of doubt and uncertainty. The second verse highlights the power of words and actions, suggesting that one small mistake or decision can have major consequences and can quickly spiral out of control. The chorus brings this idea to life, with the imagery of lighting a fire, pushing a cart, and breaking a dam representing actions that ultimately lead to loss of control. The song ends with the line "You say the words they long to hear / You can't take it back / You're out of control / Control," reminding listeners that words and actions have lasting impact and that once something is said or done, it cannot be undone.
Overall, the song speaks to the human struggle of trying to make the right choices and avoid repeating past mistakes. It acknowledges that nobody has all the answers and that even small decisions can have major consequences if not made carefully.
